I’ve always been a big supporter of buying local. After all, one of the reasons I started my blog was to help support Australian adult retailers and businesses. But over the course of the last two years, shopping local has felt less like the right thing to do, and more like a necessity. As what was once “unexpected” shipping delays becomes the norm, and more and more international retailers remove Australia from their standard shipping lists, purchasing goods from overseas no longer feels like an option for me, especially with the holiday season fast approaching. That’s part of why the opening of Faux Phallus and Darque Path, some of Australia’s first proper fantasy makers, earlier this year was so exciting. But in addition to this, there has been another, and perhaps even more vital, area of the industry that has recently saw local growth for the first time in a long time, and that is Australian-made lube. Within just the last year, four new brands have popped up around the country to ensure Australian’s aren’t without this pleasure essential, and today I’m going to be having a closer look at each of them.
Review: Lucy Lube
I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but here in Australia we’ve had some pretty lengthy and intensive lockdowns over the past year and a half. In fact, I’m even in one right now, with my home of Melbourne seeming to consistently cop some of the worst of it. But while most of us have been learning the ups and downs of day drinking and watching far too many Godzilla films, some people have clearly been a little bit more productive. In addition to the recent wave of Aussie independent toy makers I discussed in my review of the Faux Phallus Agapanthus, there has also been an even bigger emergence of sexual wellness brands, particularly those that focus on lube. In the span of just a few short months, four new Australian-made lubricants have entered the picture, with three of them being based right here in Melbourne (that’s Lucy Lube, FIGR, LBDO, and Sydney’s Get Frenchie). So whilst I am planning on doing a round-up of all four soon, today I’ll be taking a closer look at one in particular, Lucy Lube!
Review: YES WB Lubricant
While I like to test out as many sex toys as I can get my hands on, I’m a bit more picky when it comes to lubricants. I already know I love the Sliquid range, and since they have so many options available it isn’t often I feel the need to try out a new brand. But, I know that even Sliquid isn’t accessible to everyone, whether it’s because of ingredients, price, or availability in your area, and I also feel it’s part of my duty as a sex toy reviewer to test out what is essentially the companion product to almost every sex toy. So if I had to name one lubricant I’ve heard the most raving about lately and been eager to try out for myself, it’s definitely the YES WB lubricant. I’ve been following the company for a while online now, and loved their ethical and organic approach to their products. Therefore, recently when Mojoco approached me about reviewing the YES WB, I was more than glad to accept the opportunity.
Review: Sliquid Swirl Tangerine Peach & Blackberry Fig
Ever since I started blogging I have been mentioning how much I wanted to try Sliquid’s flavoured lubricant range, Swirl. One of my first reviews was on two of their best-sellers, Sassy and Sea, and they, alongside Satin which I reviewed last year, are still my favourite lubricants. Sassy is for anything butt related, Sea is for dildos, and Satin is a fantastic in-between that also moisturises for a luxurious feel. But for activities that involve taste, I have had nothing. Of course, I have owned flavoured lubricant previously that I somewhat enjoyed, and I even raved about trying some chocolate flavoured lube that was poured over ice-cream at Sexpo last year. But none of these compared to the good things I had heard about Sliquid’s flavoured lubes. Sadly, despite my longing over the Swirl range and all the delicious sounding flavours that it includes, I hadn’t ever gotten the chance to try it. That was until recently, when one of my favourite Australian sex stores, Nikki Darling, offered me some for a review. Admittedly, Tangerine Peach and Blackberry Fig were probably not flavours I would have chosen personally, but at this point I am more than happy to try anything to get my hands on some of these bottles.
Review: Good Clean Love Almost Naked
Last year when I was still finding my feet as a blogger, I was eager to track down different brands of lubrication to use personally and review on the blog, since lube is something I have always found myself quite sensitive to. While I adore my Sliquid Sea, Sassy and Satin I found it hard to believe that there is only a single brand of lubricant that works for my body. Around then Good Clean Love came out with their Almost Naked Organic Lubricant and I completely fell in love with the idea of it. Rather than the usual runny consistency I was use to from my Sliquid products, Almost Naked was described as a more gel-like lubricant, plus it was meant to have a subtle vanilla scent which I thought sounded great. So, as a 20th birthday present to myself I bought some in August last year. Funnily enough though I have just finished celebrating my 21st birthday and yet have only just started using it consistently enough to start writing up this review. While I have always thought it is a great lubricant (and it does indeed work with my body), I was put off early on by something I was originally looking forward to, its smell, which was just a bit too much for me. But, recently while reviewing the Satisfyer Pro 2 I have reconnected with my Good Clean Love Almost Naked lubricant, and thus it has been brought back onto my night stand where it belongs.
Review: Sliquid Satin Lubricant
My vagina likes to be picky, and so when it comes to lubricant, there is only one brand I trust, Sliquid. I’ve been totally smitten with their Sea and Sassy lubes for almost a year now, using Sassy for my anal play, and Sea for everything else. Plus, they really do go a long way, my two bottles are only 125ml each, which really doesn’t look like a lot, but despite using them both almost weekly, each has over half left. Even though I couldn’t imagine needing anything more than these, with the Sliquid range I do get the overwhelming sense that I’ve gotta catch try ’em all.
