Long before I started reviewing sex toys, I was an avid reader of sex blogs. As a curious 18 year old who had just moved out of home, I didn’t have much to spend, so researching which products were best in order to get the most out of my money was of the utmost importance to me. It was during this time that I first noticed a number of products that seemed to repeatedly pop up in the work of my favourite bloggers, regardless of what they were supposed to be actually writing about. They were the must-haves of sex toys, and so when I started blogging the toys on that list, such as the Magic Wand Rechargeable, We-Vibe Tango, and Njoy Pure Wand, were some of the first I sought out. Five years in however, there has only been one toy that has managed to evade me all this time, despite numerous efforts to get my hands on it. Widely regarded as the best realistic dildo ever, the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang stands-out from the rest on my list as the only toy from an independent maker, and it is that fact that has made obtaining one here in Australia tricky. But when the amazing folks over at KissKiss heard of my struggles, they were kind enough to send one out all the way from Switzerland, so that my sex toy dreams may finally be fulfilled!
Before we dive in I want to take a minute to talk about KissKiss, as it’s my first time working with them. An online sex shop based in Switzerland that has been running for over 15 years, KissKiss have a massive range of items and stock some very impressive brands. While they have all the regular names you’d expect, such as Fun Factory, Satisfyer, We-Vibe, and Womanizer, they also have some that are harder to come by, such as Doxy, NobEssence, Eroscillator and, of course, Vixen Creations. Plus, this consideration for quality also lends itself to the majority of their stock being body-safe, however there are still a few unsafe options, so do take care when browsing their store. In addition to their great range, they also offer fast processing times and discreet billing and delivery, as well as a two year warranty covering potential defects in their electrical products. For those in Switzerland you can expect next business day delivery and free shipping, while those from most other major countries (although sadly not Australia) can order and view the site in English, German, French or Italian.
Vixen Creations are a small and independent sex toy manufacturer who has been around since 1992, making them one of the oldest there is. Based in the USA, they were ahead of their time by using platinum silicone to create their toys from the start, allowing them to stand out amongst the masses of porous dildos and quickly achieve cult status. Even today, in a world where it seems a new indie studio opens their doors daily, Vixen have managed to maintain their popularity through their ethos of quality over quantity. Rather than having a bunch of weird and wacky designs, all of Vixen’s dildos are based on penises, and while they have a variety of shapes and sizes, ultimately their collection (which has barely changed over the years) is smaller than most stores. It is this focus on their existing stock, rather than working towards creating new designs, that has allowed for them to perfect their toys over the years and thus create some of the most well-regarded products in the industry. On top of that is then their colouring ability, with Vixen offering both realistic skin tones as well as vivid colour combinations, alongside their use of single, dual, and triple silicone densities (which they call Original Formula, VixSkin, and VixSkin X respectively). In addition to their range of dildos, Vixen also sell a small range of anal toys, sleeves and wand attachments, and all products are handmade.
I’m extremely pumped and excited to be finally writing a review for a product that I have been waiting my entire adult life for, so I really don’t want to kill the mood so soon, but I do have two rather pressing concerns. Firstly, I have just spent 7 years dreaming about this dildo and hearing repeatedly from anyone who owns it how amazing it is. Now, I’m not saying I don’t believe them, but that is A LOT OF HYPE. Can anything really live up to seven years of that? I guess we’ll find out. Secondly, the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang is somewhat reminiscent of an older era of sex toys. Back when this toy came out around 2009, silicone dildos were rare and expensive, and dual-density didn’t even exist. That’s right, as far as I can tell Vixen Creations were the first company to use dual-density silicone in their toys, which they dubbed VixSkin, and so it’s no wonder that when people tried this toy for the first time they were obsessed. But now in 2020 silicone has become almost standard, and even dual-density toys are no longer retailing for ungodly prices, with Blush Novelties Neo Elite 7.5 Inch setting you back only $45 AUD. So, when I consider the Mustang’s whopping $230 price tag, which makes it by far the most expensive silicone dildo I own, I can see how it made sense 10 years ago, but not today.
Now all that’s out of the way, let’s finally talk about the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang itself! Despite being advertised as a “replica of an average-sized penis”, I must say I was surprised at just how, well, average this thing is. I often feel like the odd-one-out in a sex blogger community full of “size-queens” due to my preference for smaller toys, so I just assumed that any dildo as popular as this one must be on the large side. But instead the Mustang really is quite ordinary in both size and design, which I found quite refreshing in comparison to most dildos I try out. With an extremely realistic design, Vixen have managed to balance the toy’s texture well through its use of visually protruding veins, foreskin and other elements, despite them feeling quite subtle to the touch. Size variations are also handled well, with a pronounced yet entirely soft head, before a gradual increase as you move down the firm shaft. On that note, the main size to consider with this toy is 3.6cm / 1.4″ in diameter, as that is what you’ll find around the Mustang’s middle, however the largest insertable point (which is at its base) is 4cm / 1.6″ in diameter. Then, in terms of its dual-density, this has been applied for maximum realism, with the firmer inner core starting just under the Mustang’s head. However, while this works well, the illusion is somewhat ruined by the incredibly sticky surface of the toy, which is easily the tackiest silicone I have ever felt and means it constantly attracts dust. I have my copy in Vixen’s Beige skin-tone colouring, which is the only style KissKiss sell, however it also comes in Vanilla and Chocolate elsewhere, as well as a few non-realistic colours, most notably its popular “Tie Bright” design. Two Vixen logos are then embossed into the silicone, with the first being on the bottom of the toy’s base, and the second being at the end of the toy’s shaft, which can also help orientate the Mustang during use. With a slight curve to its 18cm / 7″ length to aid G- or P- Spot stimulation, this toy is both anal and harness safe as it has a flared base. Finally, this toy does have a suction-style base, although as Vixen’s website notes, it is not intended as a proper suction cup.
My order for the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang was placed with KissKiss around the 29th of August and I received it on the 21st of September. The package was then fully discreet, with no mention of the sender or the contents. As for the box for the Mustang itself, this was like nothing I’ve ever received with a sex toy before. Displayed beautifully inside a clear plastic cylinder, the toy is on show for all to see. Reminding me of a museum-style display case, this packaging couldn’t be a more perfect first impression for such a sought-after product. On the plastic there is then two stickers, one displaying the brand name and motto, and the other providing information on the brand and product, including care instructions. To access the toy you can then remove the black plastic from the top of the tube, although this isn’t the easiest and does take some time. While the packaging is then small enough to store the toy in, it’s not exactly discreet, and this combined with how difficult it is to open makes it not the most ideal storage solution. Overall though I was very happy with this packaging, especially considering Vixen are a small business, and if you remove the stickers then it can easily be repurposed for something else. Finally, while the information on the sticker mentions an “unbeatable lifetime warranty” where you can “simply return with receipt for a replacement”, Vixen provide quite a different perspective on their website. Firstly, the warranty only covers manufacturing defects rather than any potential wear and tear over the toy’s lifetime, and secondly it is only valid in the USA for items sold through their authorised retailers (and even then it is not exactly a simple process).
At this point in my sex toy journey I have tried a lot of dual-density silicone dildos. I love them because of how they feel so much more realistic than single-density toys, but yet I’ve always had a bit of a Goldilocks situation going on, with some of them being too firm and others being too soft. But when I finally got to feel Vixen’s famous VixSkin blend for the first time? Well it is juuusssttt right. With an outer layer that features the perfect amount of thickness and softness, allowing me to squish and pull the skin only to the extent that would work on a real penis, and a completely firm inner core that ends just before the head, the Mustang really does capture that realistic feeling better than any other dildo I own. Plus, it also means that the head of this toy is wonderfully squishy since it has no core, which makes insertion easy. On that note, I really have to commend Vixen for their sizing, as the Mustang manages to be both small enough to insert without warming-up (adding it to a very select group of toys I can do that with) and large enough to feel immensely fulfilling, which is absolutely a sex toy first for me. This is achieved due to the fact that rather than having its largest point at the start of the toy, which is very common with dildos, the Mustang instead has its at its end, which is a feature I always prefer as it gives you something to work towards rather than an initial hurdle to get over.
As soon as I first inserted the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang it became clear to me why this dildo is considered a legend. It’s been a running theme of this review that there isn’t any particular wow factors with this toy, rather that it is just an incredibly well balanced and considered product, and this very much speaks to my use of it as well. The soft head is a delight to insert, and as soon as the shaft enters me so does the sensation of fullness that the firmer inner core brings. The deeper it goes, the thicker it then gets, and I love the feeling of slowly being able to take more and more of its length over the course of a session. Then there is the texture, which can certainly be felt but in a way that doesn’t overwhelm or feel unnatural. Another element that I didn’t even really consider until use is its base, which may well be the best I’ve ever used. Wide yet firm, it allows me to manoeuvre the toy in ways I’ve never thought to try with a dildo before, and its design has become absolutely key to my enjoyment of this product. This is because my favourite way to use the Mustang has been to angle it so that its curve is rubbing against either my entrance or the back wall of my vagina, which is something I cannot achieve so perfectly with any of my other toys due to either their size or base not allowing for it. I find this method immensely pleasurable, and I even realised that it allows for me to rub the toy’s shaft against my clitoris whilst the other end is still inside of me, so that I can achieve a clitoral orgasm that way. As great as this is though, my favourite way to climax with the Mustang has to be with hard and short thrusts paired with a good clit vibrator, such as the Dame Kip, which always guarantees me an immensely satisfying orgasm.
In regards to the Mustang’s suction base, which Vixen specify on their website is not “a true suction cup” despite it being advertised as such on most retail stores, it’s certainly not the best. While it does stick to most surfaces like a suction cup would (my bathroom tiles seem to work best) it’s absolutely not as strong as other “true” suction cups I have tried, frequently falling off or not being able to withstand any applied pressure. Due to this I wouldn’t recommend the Mustang (or any other Vixen toys besides those with specialised suction cups) if you are interested in using it as a suction cup dildo, as you’ll likely be disappointed.
Since the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang is silicone and waterproof, cleaning it is easy. Just wash it in some warm soapy water before rinsing it and leaving it to air dry. After this I’d recommend storing it in a zip-lock bag to keep it clean between uses, as it attracts a fair amount of dust. In addition to this I’d recommend sterilising the toy every few uses or when switching between partners or orifices, and you can do this by boiling it for three minutes. Lastly, make sure to only use water-based lubricants with this product, as others may have negative effects on the silicone.
So, the question on everybody’s mind at this point is: did the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang truly live up to seven years worth of hype?? Heck YES! This toy might look like just another realistic dildo, but as the oldest realistic dildo now in my collection (in terms of when it was released), its age and experience certainly shows. Every element of this toy, whether we’re talking about its size, texture or densities, has been balanced to perfection, and even something as simple as its base (which isn’t something I usually discuss in reviews) is a mini masterpiece. Really the only faults here (other than Vixen’s misleading warranty claim) are its not-so-suction suction cup and sticky surface, but since neither of these things actually impact my use I couldn’t care less. The Mustang has easily taken the title of my favourite realistic dildo, a claim that until now was held by the Tantus Pack ‘n Play No.2 since 2015. The only problem however, is that this toy still retails for more than four times the cost of products similar to it, and so there’s just no getting around the fact that the Mustang is straight-up overpriced in today’s market. Plus, whilst this toy is damn good, it’s certainly not that much better than my other realistic dildos. Due to this I would suggest that if you can afford it then go for it, but if you can’t then don’t stress, because there are plenty of other dildos for far less that are absolutely just as worthwhile.

Amazing
While I do believe this product is overpriced, I can't deny that it feels amazing and is the best realistic dildo I have tried.
