I’ve been writing about sex toys for over eight years now, yet I’ve surprisingly only reviewed six thrusters, with two of those being this year. I suppose two isn’t really enough to declare that 2023 is the “year of the thruster”, but because I don’t try them very often, it feels like it is to me. Plus, I have a lot more on the way, starting with today’s review on the Lovense Gravity. An accordian-style thruster (of which I have two others, whilst the rest are split between magnetic-style and stretch-style), Lovense have added their usual high-tech touch to the product, making this innovative toy quite unlike any of the other handheld sex machines I’ve tried. Offering vibrations alongside the thrusting, it is also compatible with the Chinese brand’s comprehensive range of apps for greater control over both bluetooth and wifi. Making this not only an exciting thruster for solo use, but the perfect option for those in long-distance relationships or online sex work.
Product Description
The Lovense Gravity was sent out to me by Velvet Brands, who are quite a connoisseur of thrusters. As I mentioned, it has the added bonus of vibrating, and the two functions can either be controlled via the dual buttons on the toy itself or the Lovense Remote app (Lovense also have a few other apps, including their cam site integration software, which I talk a little more about in my review of their Lush 2, but as I’m neither looking to date or working as a cam girl, I won’t be testing these out). It is definitely the most modern-looking of all my thrusters, with a sleek and firm silicone body that somehow manages to make its accordion-style ridges look like an interesting design choice rather than a functional necessity. This is done by having them wrap around the toy with a slight curve, and textured ridges nearer the Gravity’s head mirror this shape, helping it not look out of place. A long sex toy even when it’s not extended, the product comes in at 25.8cm / 10.2″ in length, with 10.5cm / 4.1″ of that consisting of the handle and accordion ridges (a small bump in the silicone divides the two), and 13cm / 5.1″ of it accounting for the insertable shaft, which has a maximum diameter of just 3.69cm / 1.45″ (the rest of the length is the suction cup). With a silky smooth surface, the only visual downside is then the seam that runs down the front and back of the shaft, which is most prominent near the buttons and on the ridges, but its beautifully unique shade of red makes up for this (unless you don’t like red, of course, because it’s the only colour it is available in). In addition to the buttons being on the handle, you’ll also find the Lovense logo imprinted on the silicone on one side, as well as metal plates for the charging cord to connect to, although these can be a little sharp since they stick out. Then, at the very bottom of the toy you’ll find the Gravity’s other special feature, which is its attachable suction cup. I’ll talk more later about the actual cup, but essentially it just screws on, and when it’s not in use you can instead cover this area with a small piece of silicone that features the Lovense logo and a small hole for air to release through when the toy is thrusting. Finally, the Gravity is also USB rechargeable, body-safe, and water resistant, and whilst it can be used anally and with a harness when the suction cup is attached, it isn’t intended for use in these ways.
The Sender
My first time reviewing a product for Velvet Brands, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know their work over the last few months as one of my blog sponsors. Consisting of four different stores, each with its own products and personality, this Brooklyn-based small business may be new to the game, but are already pumping out the kind of innovations many sex toy manufacturers only dream about. This can be attributed to the fact that prior to opening up Velvet Brands, the couple behind it worked as engineers for companies like NASA, and that they’ve also engaged the experience of sex bloggers in order to make the best products possible. Their core brand, Velvet Thruster, features an advanced modular thruster, as well as a mini version at a lower price point. Meanwhile, Boutique Voila offers quirky budget options, such as their pop culture-inspired Energy Ball and Mighty Hammer, while L’Acier specialises in vibrating stainless steel toys. Finally, Gleam is their wellness brand, with their very own lubricant and toy cleaner. The Lovense Gravity, which is not their product but does feature their patented screw-in suction cup, can be purchased at both the Velvet Thruster and Boutique Voila websites.
Packaging
My order for the Lovense Gravity was placed with Velvet Brands on the 23rd of May and it arrived on the 1st of June. The package was then sadly not discreet, listing the brand logo and items as “massager samples for media reviews” on a visible invoice at the front (which gives me hope this is not something you’d experience as a customer). As for the Gravity itself, this was in a high-quality cardboard box similar to what I received with the Lush 2, featuring a picture of the toy on the front alongside information on what it can do on the back. Opening this up, you’ll then find the toy resting safely in foam, alongside its detached suction cup. Also included are an instruction manual, charging cord, and satin storage bag, plus the Lovense Gravity has a one year warranty.
Charging
Charging the Lovense Gravity is easy since it is USB rechargeable. Simply plug one end of the charging cord into a USB port, and the other end can connect magnetically to the metal plates on the toy. Plus, these are quite study, so there shouldn’t be too much concern of it falling off. Once on charge, a light on the front of the toy will turn on to indicate charging, and this will turn off once complete. You can expect this to take around two hours, which will give you around four hours of use, which is very impressive. Additionally, Lovense also lists the Gravity as having 120 hours of standby time, which presumably means when the toy is on but not running (which it can be in for long periods when you’re using the app), something that is even more impressive.
Suction Cup
One of the most interesting and unique aspects of the Lovense Gravity is its suction cup. Using the patented technology from Velvet Brand’s Prime Thruster, this suction cup is actually screwed onto the base of the toy. This is fantastic for three reasons. Firstly, if you’re like me and don’t tend to make use of suction cups, no worries! You can just leave it off, ensuring it won’t get in the way during play, and instead use the small silicone cover that fits onto the end of the toy instead. Next, it has allowed Lovense to really go all out with the suction cup design, since they don’t need to worry about how it pairs with the body of the toy. This suction cup is one of the thickest and deepest I’ve seen, and because of that it should be no surprise that it is also one of the most sturdy. It can easily be placed on walls and floors, with no chance of it coming loose or falling off. Finally, there is a slight gap between the suction cup and Gravity, even when fully screwed in. This gives it an added level of flexibility, as rather than the toy being stuck to the wall / floor with it, it can instead move around semi-freely. Overall, this is a very smart piece of sex tech, and it even managed to convince me to try out the Gravity doggy-style.
Controls
With two functions (thrusting and vibrating) and two buttons that directly correspond to one another, using the Lovense Gravity is simple and quick to pick up. Although whilst the brand’s website advertises them as being fully independent, this isn’t entirely true unfortunately, as only one button functions as the power control. With this in mind, you can turn the Gravity on by holding down the button with the zigzag line that’s closest to the insertable shaft for three seconds. This’ll place the toy into standby mode, which is indicated by a quick vibration and a blinking light above the button. After this you can either connect it to the app, continue to click this button to cycle through the toy’s vibrations, or press the lower button with the up / down arrow symbols to cycle through the thrusting. Both functions come with seven in-built modes, with three being steady speeds and four being patterns, but these can be adjusted in the Lovense Remote app. The two functions can then be used separately or together, allowing you to find your perfect blend between them, and when you’re done you can simply hold down the power button again for three seconds. Overall, I find this all very easy to use, and the great choice of symbols on the buttons help me to remember which is which. The only downside is that I can never seem to recall which one functions as the power button, so having a symbol for this too, either on or nearby the button, would have made it even better.
The App
Whilst you can control the Lovense Gravity well enough with the buttons, the Lovense Remote offers far more functionality. I’ve used this once before in my 2021 review of the Lovense Lush 2, and whilst there were a few glitches that caused problems, particularly with the Long Distance control screen, ultimately I really enjoyed it. Since then it seems Remote has been through a major update, and even though many of the functions are the same, the look and feel has been totally revamped to be more in line with 2023 design trends. You can read about my experience with it, as well as key features and issues I found, at my sex toy app review round-up. Although as for using it with the Gravity, I didn’t feel it was the best toy to get the full app experience with, as functions such as Speed Mode and Game would work so much better with an internal vibe or masturbator. Regardless, it was absolutely necessary when using this toy with its suction cup, and for this I really enjoyed it. Plus, I was able to remove the in-built patterns from the Gravity with it, so now even when I’m not using the app, I don’t need to worry about them coming up.
First Impressions
The Lovense Lush 2 features strong yet quiet vibrations, and so I was super pumped to try my second product from this exciting sex toy brand. Turning on the vibrations to start with, I was impressed with how rumbly they are, however they are also loud. This is mostly due to the silicone only being loosely attached to the toy in some areas and then making noise as it vibrates (as opposed to the motor itself being loud), most notably over the accordion-style ribbed area, which is necessary for the thruster to work. You can stop this residual noise by placing your hand over this area, and this is also reduced during use. Things only get worse once the thruster is turned on though, as this too is very loud, and together they mean any privacy is out the window (and even though I now live in a stand-alone building, I’ve actually had major concerns during testing that my neighbours can hear it). Of course, there is an expectation of noise when it comes to hand-held sex machines, and I’m sure this is still a lot quieter than freestanding versions. but it’s worth mentioning. The upside is that the Gravity has a great range of movement, extending out to grow an additional 3.2cm / 1.25″ in length. Plus, there is a good amount of force behind it, and no matter how hard I try, I cannot stop the thrusting action with my hands whilst it is running, something I’ve never been able to say before about any other accordion-style thruster.
My Experience
Inserting the Lovense Gravity is easy since it is quite average in girth, plus it has a tapered and soft tip, which is a nice change from the otherwise firm shaft. Once in, I quickly find that it doesn’t reach my G-Spot, as suggested in the advertising, however this isn’t a surprise for me as I generally need some kind of curve for this to happen. I also don’t notice the three textural elements, or the slight reduction in girth that occurs a few inches in. You then have a nice amount of length to insert, before stopping when you get too close to those accordion ridges. This is partly because you don’t want to get them too messy, but I’ve also found that they can pinch you if they get too close and the thrusting is turned on, so make sure to avoid them. Activating the vibrations is then underwhelming, as unfortunately without any G-Spot stimulation I don’t find they have much purpose, but it is a different story with the thrusting. This is a joy to use, and is easily the best thruster I’ve tried, which, more than anything else, I attribute to that powerful range of movement I talked about earlier. Sometimes thrusters are slower in use than when I am simply holding them, and the deeper I push them, the more they begin to decelerate, to the point where I’ve had some turn off mid-session. But not the Lovense Gravity, which maintains its pace no matter what.
When you aren’t using the suction cup, you will need to hold the toy with your hand to ensure it thrusts inside of you, rather than the handle just moving around. Plus, one of my usual thruster hacks is to position the handle to be wedged in under my leg, so that I can use it hands-free, but this does not work with the Gravity because it’ll just cause the ridges to get pushed into you, which is not good. This requirement to hold it is really my only downside to using the Gravity like this, as since I need my other hand for clitoral stimulation, usually with my trusty Doxy Bullet or We-Vibe Touch X, I don’t have a free hand to watch porn on my phone. This also means that I can’t use the Lovense Remote app when using the Gravity like this. Of course, when using the suction cup, it’s a totally different story. The app is not only easy to use since your hands are free, but required, since you won’t be able to easily reach the buttons, and for this my favourite feature is unsurprisingly the Remote mode’s sliders. In fact, using the Gravity suctioned to the wall has quickly become my favourite way to use it, as I find it’s a lot easier to use like this and it also feels much more realistic and enjoyable as opposed to just holding it, and that super strong suction cup means you don’t need to worry about it going anywhere.
Cleaning & Care
Cleaning the Lovense Gravity is fairly easy, although I will say that I do take issue with any toy that is not waterproof in 2023. This means you will need to make sure you clean it straight after use, as you won’t be able to soak any dried fluids, and you can do this by scrubbing it down with some warm soapy water, rinsing, and leaving to air dry. Plus, if I could change one small thing about the toy, it would be to remove the textured lines on the shaft, as since these cannot be felt during use, all they serve to do is to look good and to make cleaning more annoying, as I recommend also going over these with a spare soapy toothbrush before rinsing. This will be required on the ridges too, because even if you (hopefully) didn’t insert these, they’re likely to still pick up some fluids that’ll eventually go crusty. Once dry, you can then store the Gravity in Lovense’s included storage bag. Additionally, make sure to not use silicone-based lubricant with this product, as it may damage the silicone it is made of.
Final Thoughts
I may not have tried a huge range of thrusters in the past, but that doesn’t stop me from recognising that the Lovense Gravity is something special. Even if you only looked at its base function, which is that back-and-forth 3.2cm / 1.25″ of extension, it would still knock it out of the park compared to the others. No longer do I need to worry about my hand-held sex machine slowing down or even stopping whilst being used internally, because the Gravity will just continue on, regardless of how much Kegel training you’ve been doing. There are some things to consider, such as the pinching that can occur if you let the accordion-style ridges get too close to you and the noise level, but if these are what it takes to make a successful thruster, then I am all for it. And then we can start to look at everything else it offers on top of that, from its vibrations and attachable suction cup, to, of course, its compatibility with Lovense’s next-level Remote app, where you can even connect the Gravity to games on Steam! I’ll also note that whilst my biggest issue with the toy was its lack of G-Spot stimulation, which directly related to my enjoyment of (or, rather, lack of) the vibrations, this is something I regularly have issues with due to my body type, and will likely not be a problem for you. Overall, whilst the price tag does make the Gravity a bit of an investment, I feel like with this kind of product it’s either go big or go home, and so if you’re looking for a thruster, it’s going to be hard to go past this one.

Good
Easily the best thruster I have tried, with a good range of movement, a strong suction cup for hands-free use, and a comprehensive app to run alongside it.

Thanks for a great review
I’ve been thinking about adding one of these to my kink kit
Awesome! For sure will recommend this one to the wife
Thank you so much for this review, like all of yours, it is incredibly thorough.
Sigh, with my neighbor situation I’d have to reserve it for vacation use, but I’m still tempted…
My helper in my advanced years
Worth a try. Thanks for the review.
Great review! How would you compare it to stuff like the Teddy mini?
I’ve got a Velvet Thruster Teddy Mini XL on its way, so I’ll be posting a comparison soon!
Does cleaning with a toothbrush scratch the material?
Not in my experience. I use a soft toothbrush and avoid scrubbing too hard.
