Rocks Off Purple HeartSex toys can come in all shapes and sizes, but sadly most look pretty much the same, with companies sticking to the traditional designs that have been around for years. This can be great, it means you’re getting something that is known to perform well, but if you want your toy collection to keep expanding after you get these fundamental types, then it can get a little boring as you struggle to find anything new or original. I often feel like this, so when Rocks Off recently approached me about trying their new range of toys, I was instantly drawn to the Purple Heart when I saw it. It isn’t quite a clitoral vibrator, and it isn’t quite a wand massager. In fact, I personally haven’t seen anything like it before. But the design makes a lot of sense to me, plus it looks fantastic. Of course, when designing something new the risk factor that it won’t work is a lot higher, but I think companies need to take these risks occasionally in order to innovate. Either way, this is a toy I was super excited to try out.

Product Description

If I had to put the Rocks Off Purple Heart in a sex toy category, I suppose it would be a wand massager. It’s a lot smaller than the traditional types though, with its handle fitting neatly in the palm of my hand. Another big difference is that while sex toys usually provide either broad or pin-point stimulation (with most wand massagers being in the former category), the Rocks Off Purple Heart aims to do both, as the flat side of the head offers broad stimulation, while those who prefer pin-point can instead use the tip of the head. The concept of being able to offer both types of stimulation in a single toy is a neat idea, and proves that the heart shape is there for more than just aesthetics.

Rocks Off Purple Heart

The head of this toy is made with purple body-safe silicone, and this is silky smooth and very firm. The rest of the toy is then made with a shiny ABS plastic, except for the two buttons on the front which are also covered in silicone. The handle of the toy is purple like the silicone, while the bottom is gold and features the Rocks Off logo. Despite a relatively high price tag, sadly this toy is battery-powered (two AAAs), and these come with it. Thankfully at least it’s fully waterproof, and comes with a one year guarantee. Finally, as one would imagine with a name like Purple Heart, this toy only comes in purple.

Packaging

My order with Rocks Off was placed on the 22nd of November, and I received the package on the 27th of November, which is the fastest I have ever received anything from the UK or overseas. In fact, that’s quicker than most domestic post I get! Unfortunately, the package was not discreet at all, with the sender being listed as Rocks Off and the product as ‘Electrical Vibratory Massage Appliance’. Even though Rocks Off are a manufacturer, they also sell their products online and have a 100% discreet shipping policy, so I was surprised to see this. Perhaps they send review items differently than they do for actual customers. Either way this is something to be cautious about if discreet delivery is important to you.

Rocks Off Purple Heart

The packaging for the Purple Heart was essentially the same as my previous Rocks Off product, the Unihorn. It comes with a white sleeve with just the name of the toy on it to keep things discreet, which I love, and then under this is the actual packaging. This is a very luxurious box, with a stunning lace-like pattern on it that has been printed with a varnish so it shines in light. The product can then be viewed through the clear plastic on the front, and on the back is all sorts of information about the toy. Inside the box is the toy itself, a small booklet on instructions and the warranty, and a piece of card that contains further instructions. The booklet and card are actually hidden in the back of the box, so make sure to look for them when receiving any Rocks Off products and not just throw away the box (I almost missed them completely)!

Battery Compartment

As soon as I got this toy I had a huge problem with it… I couldn’t turn it on! By this I mean that when the toy first arrives you need to remove a small piece of plastic inside the battery compartment so that the batteries can work, very typical of any battery powered product. But the issue I had was that I couldn’t for the life of me work out how to open the battery compartment, which is the gold bottom area of the toy. I tried for days, before resorting to asking my fellow bloggers and Rocks Off themselves. In the end it was as I had assumed, you just need to pull the gold area off, but the pressure I had to apply was far more than I was comfortable with, and so without confirmation of this fact I wasn’t game enough to try and end up with a broken toy! Now you’ve read this review you know and won’t have this issue, but in the future it would be great if this sort of information was included in the instructions for the people like me who are paranoid about breaking things!

Controls

This toy features two buttons, and since they are labelled it makes using the toy easy and intuitive. The top button says ‘On / Off’, while the lower one says ‘10x’, referring to the 10 speeds the toy offers. So as you would imagine, pressing the top button will turn the toy on, which turns a purple LED light around the buttons on and puts the toy on its first vibration speed, and pressing it again will turn the toy off. While on, you can then press the lower button to cycle through the 10 vibration speeds, 3 of which are steady vibrations and 7 of which are patterns, which is about usual for a sex toy. This is very easy to use and remember, and overall I really like the way these buttons work. While I don’t feel the ‘On / Off’ button is entirely necessary, I am glad that at least it isn’t just a ‘stand-by mode’, which is a common sex toy feature I hate. Another thing I really like about these buttons, similar to the Rocks Off Unihorn, is that they have a obvious ‘click’ when pressed that feels satisfying, which is something that I often find is missing with some vibrators.

First Impressions

The biggest issue I had with my last two Rocks Off toys is that I found their motors very buzzy, which I personally do not like in a vibrator. They were both small bullet vibrators however, so I felt confident that the motor would be better in this larger vibe. In turning it on I have indeed found that is is far more rumbly and powerful than my Rocks Off bullets. It definitely still has a buzzy feel to it, particularly on the highest speed, but this is by such a small amount now that it does not bother me. As the silicone is completely firm it also makes the vibrations feel a lot stronger, making this toy even more intense. The only downside to these vibrations unfortunately is their noise level, which is quite high, so I probably wouldn’t recommend this toy if you need to be quiet due to your living situation.

My Experience

To be honest I’m not entirely sure which side of the head has been designed to rest against the clitoris, but it’s the sort of thing where there is no right or wrong answer because it all depends on your preference. I feel like the side with the buttons is probably the intended side, because this has curves and a larger area for use, plus the shape of the handle works well for it. However, when I use it like this I find I have trouble pressing the buttons. So, due to this I’ve come to instead like using the side without buttons best, as this way the toy can neatly rest against me for easy use. Plus, this way once things start getting a little more intense I can just move the toy to a slight angle so that its tip rests against my clitoris, changing the stimulation style to a more pin-point feel so I can orgasm quicker. Overall, I love the way this toy feels and the vibrations are strong enough to give me very fast and powerful orgasms. But the thing I like most about it is how versatile it is. It’s not often I find a toy where I can switch between broad and pin-point stimulation on the fly, which I totally adore, plus I feel this versatility means it’ll be able to satisfy way more people than a typical vibrator.

This toy is actually marketed as a couples vibrator, and while I don’t really see what about it is particularly related to couples, I will admit it works pretty well as one. I find using it when I am with a partner very unobtrusive due to its shape and size, and I can quite easily rest it against my clitoris during PIV sex, without it getting in the way like a regular wand massager would. It makes a good alternative to using bullet vibrators to do this job, as it can provide the broad stimulation that they cannot.

Cleaning & Care

Rocks Off Purple Heart

Cleaning the Rocks Off Purple Heart is easy since it is made from silicone and is waterproof. Just put it in some warm soapy water, clean it off and then throughly rinse. Do be careful when washing between the silicone and plastic however, as bacteria can easily hide in this seam, so I would recommend cleaning this area with a spare toothbrush. After this you can leave it to air dry and then return to storage. Be careful to not use silicone lubricant with this toy, but if you must then first perform a spot test to ensure it won’t harm the silicone on the toy.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I have loved testing the Rocks Off Purple Heart, and it has easily been the best vibrator by Rocks Off I have tested so far. After my disappointment from their two bullet vibrators I had high hopes for this little massager to prove to me what I knew Rocks Off could achieve, and I’m glad it did. Essentially this is just a fantastic mini wand massager, but its ability to switch between broad and pin-point stimulation certainly gives it a unique selling point that will allow for it to appeal to a much wider audience than the typical vibrator. My only issue with the toy is that it has a fairly high price, and in my opinion a toy that costs more than $50 AUD should not be running off batteries. It is a shame, since if this was a USB rechargeable toy then I think it would be perfect. But this comes down to opinion, so if battery operated devices isn’t something that bothers you then you’re in luck. I would highly recommend this toy to anyone who enjoys both types of stimulation, who is looking for a reasonably priced wand massager, or who wants a vibrator that can offer broad stimulation during sex.

Sadly, the Rocks Off Purple Heart has now been discontinued.

  1. I love the shape! Makes so much sense. (It looks more like a strawberry than a heart to me. Should’ve offered it in bright red.)

  2. Such a nice appearance, however I am disappointed to hear about the indiscreet packaging. Also, they should include important information (such as how to open the battery compartment) in the instructions. I have had this problem with toys before, and it can be quite frustrating.

  3. It sounds like a good design, but it also sounds like it will be too loud for a lot of people (us included) which is a shame. Thanks for the review.

  4. Based on this review, I recently bought the upgraded version of this, the beautiful gold and black “Luv Wand”. It’s rechargeable and not as loud as I expected, I love the combination of point and broad at the same time!
