How To Travel With Sex Toys

I love travelling. Whether I am with my partner for a romantic getaway, or by myself to work on a project, nothing beats getting out of my regular routine and switching up my environment. Sex toys are also a big part of my life these days, and no matter where I’m headed I can never resist taking a few of my favourites along for the trip with me. But it wasn’t always this way, and when I first started this blog the mere thought of taking a vibrator on a plane would cause my anxiety to flare up. “What if it starts going off in my bag?? What if somebody sees it??” I still get occasionally nervous when travelling with toys, but through my experience I have found methods to help me overcome this, and to ensure my toys are always travel ready. Today I thought I would share my tips and tricks with you, in the hope that they can help you as much as they have helped me!

Remember It’s Normal!

There are definitely ways to reduce the risk and embarrassment of being caught traveling with sex toys, and I will discuss those next. But I think the most important thing to remember is that despite how society views them, SEX TOYS ARE NORMAL!! You can put every measure in place to ensure no one finds out about your toys, but at the end of the day it might not work, so the best way to avoid embarrassment is to just not let it embarrass you. Sex is an extremely common part of life, and sex toys are just accessories to that. So really travelling with sex toys should be as normal as bringing your hairbrush. I know that it’s hard to shake off the embarrassment that sex can bring, but just try and keep in mind that it’s perfectly normal (and very common!) while travelling, and that no one has the right to shame you over it. Plus, your vibrator will most certainly not be the first that the airport security has seen.

Bring Discreetly Designed Toys

One of the main things I consider when choosing sex toys to travel with is their appearance. Small toys are usually easiest, and the less phallic and more discreet they are then the better. I mean, it’s going to be a lot more embarrassing to have a huge realistic dildo pulled out your bag than a cute pebble-sized vibrator. Thankfully this is something that sex toy manufacturers have recognised, and these days more and more sex toys are moving away from their classic phallic designs to far more discreet and stylish appearances.

THE LILY by Fleurotics

Seashells, vegetables, and lightsabers are just some of the things sex toys are taking on the appearances of these day. Some even feature alternative uses, such as doubling up as a flashlight or necklace, so that you can hide its true purpose. A great example of these sex toys that don’t look like sex toys is THE LILY, a vibrator that is currently being crowd-funded on Indiegogo. Designed by Fleurotics, they recognised a need for a more discreet and feminine looking sex toy in the industry. In taking on the appearance of a flower and being inspired by nature, THE LILY is a far cry away from the traditional vibrator, and it’s highly unlikely anyone will recognise it as such. By taking toys like THE LILY with you when you go away, the usual fear of somebody seeing it is eliminated, as you can feel safe knowing that they won’t know what it is. Plus, on the off chance that they do recognise it, you’ll be able to take pride in having such a trendy and good-looking toy.

Make Sure It Has A Travel Lock

These days sex toys usually come in two main types: battery powered or USB rechargeable. If you have a battery powered toy, which are the cheaper of the two, then you don’t have an issue. Just take out the batteries before travelling and you’re good to go! But what about if you have one of the more expensive USB rechargeable toys?

Well, luckily these days many luxury sex toys come with a travel lock of some form. Usually this’ll mean you can simply hold down a special combination of the toy’s buttons to lock it (and then unlock it), meaning you no longer have to worry about the toy suddenly springing to life in your suitcase. Some toys even come with special travel cases, which are specially designed to reduce the risk of the toy turning on while in transit.

If you are buying a rechargeable sex toy to travel with then this is a must-have, so make sure the toy you are thinking of bringing features some sort of locking mechanism. While it is becoming more common with luxury toys, sadly not all have one, which is a real shame since I find it to be such a beneficial feature. Even THE LILY by Fleurotics, which focuses on being discreet enough for travel, doesn’t actually have any features that allow it to do so safely, and as such I sincerely hope that they add a travel lock before the campaign is over. The other option with rechargeable toys is to just leave them on until their battery runs out before packing them, but personally I like to have my toys charged and ready to go, so that I don’t have to worry about charging them when I reach my destination.

Another plus to buying USB rechargeable toys is that they are extremely easy to charge on holiday. Just plug in the cord to your laptop, or to whatever USB port the hotel offers! Unlike power outlets, which change depending on the country and require power adaptors, USB ports are the same everywhere.

Final Tips

If you have check-in luggage, put your toys in it.

If you have the opportunity to place your toys in a check-in suitcase, then this is always the way to go. It means that even if the bag does get checked, you won’t be there to deal with it in public, with makes the entire process of flying with toys far less stressful. If you have a really expensive toy and are worried about its safety, or if you don’t have check-in luggage, then it’s totally fine to place them in your carry-on, but just be ready to answer any questions that may come up about them from security.

Be honest if asked.

If you do end up getting asked any questions, just be honest and upfront. If anything, try to own it, and be proud that you value your own pleasure so much. If you find yourself nervous and too embarrassed to answer questions, you’ll end up looking suspicious and just making things harder. It’s far more embarrassing to get detained at the airport than to explain you have a vibrator in your bag!

Use separate zip-lock bags for each.

I always store my toys like this, because it keeps them clean and ready for use. This is even more important than usual though during travel, as it means they are kept free of any contamination if they do end up being inspected.

Check if they are legal where you are going.

While it’s unlikely it’ll be your destination, some countries actually have bans on sex toys being brought into them. Places such as Thailand, Vietnam, and India are just a few that have such bans, so make sure to check online before you go or risk getting your toy confiscated. If you’re unlucky enough to have one of these as your destination, your best bet will be to bring a discreetly designed toy, such as THE LILY by Fleurotics, along with you.

Buy a travel adaptor if it needs to be plugged in to a power outlet.

As I mentioned before, most electronic toys these days are either USB rechargeable or battery powered. But the few that aren’t require being plugged into a power outlet, either to charge or to draw power directly from it. If this is what you have, make sure to bring a power adaptor and possibly a current converter depending on where you are going. Additionally, some of these toys may void their warranties if used internationally, so make sure to check if yours is one of these first.

  1. Favorite toy to travel with is the Form 2 by Jimmyjane! Discreet shape and travel lock makes it perfect!

  2. I hope to get a Fleshlight Go (or whatever the travel one is called) in the future for the reason of being able to just say “Oh its a flashlight” (although that then brings and issue of them wondering why i have flashlight when im traveling :/) and since itll be small enough to carry around

  3. I always wondered what to do if I traveled and wanted to take sex toys on a vacation. This eases the stress and embarrassment.

  4. I sewed up a zippered pouch that I embroidered “Adult Pleasure Devices” on the front and back which I place my toys into it after placing them in a zip loc bag first. So all I have to do is smile really big when the come across it.
