Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder

When Odyssey Toys, sister company to one of my favourite indie makers, recently reached out about reviewing their Kraken Grinder, I was so excited. But what was even more exciting was when the package arrived… a very large package that definitely didn’t contain just one item. I opened it a few days before Christmas, and it really did feel like I was getting all my gifts early, as they totally spoiled me with a mix of their own fantasy creations and Godemiche’s newest grinder range. And whilst I tried my best to focus on the Kraken Grinder, anyone who watched the unboxing at my Instagram knows that I immediately fell in love with the Coffin Grinder instead. Functionally, I knew that the Kraken Grinder was probably the better choice for me due to its penetrable nature, yet I just couldn’t shake the way I felt about its even more elaborate twin. So, when Odyssey Toys suggested a follow-up review, I jumped at the chance to finally showcase the Coffin Grinder in all its glory!

Product Description

The Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder is similar to the Kraken Grinder, with the key difference being the story it tells. Whilst I adored the fantastical nature of a kraken rising up from the ocean depths to take down a ship, this grinder instead looks to the past, with the darker and even more Lovecraftian theme of grave robbers, who, upon uncovering their prize, instead find it filled with tentacles! The type of attention to detail I saw on the Kraken is then taken even further here, allowing the tale to truly come alive, complete with the robber’s shovel and lantern laying abandoned amongst the rubble whilst the tentacles burst forth from within the wooden coffin. As a regular Call of Cthulhu player, it’s safe to say this is not an unfamiliar scene for me, so to see it represented on a grinder is just unreal. Needless to say, it is also very much unlike any other sex toy, and I highly doubt anyone who sees it in its new home on my bookshelf will have any clue as to its true nature.

The included Rocks Off RO-80mm bullet.

The rest of the grinder is then very familiar, with Odyssey Toy’s classic plaque-like base, their logo at the bottom, and slits at each of the four corners for straps. Like the Kraken Grinder, the Coffin Grinder also comes with a variety of add-ons, with the only difference between the two being that the Coffin also has the choice of a “vibrating upgrade” for just $20 AUD / $13 USD. My copy has this, and it means that there is a hole in the base of the Coffin so that a bullet vibrator may slide in and allow the entire grinder to vibrate. Plus, my favourite battery-powered bullet, the Rocks Off RO-80mm, is included, and so considering you’re making the Coffin more versatile and getting a whole other toy, this upgrade is great value. Besides this, Odyssey Toys also provided my Coffin Grinder with their Extra Soft upgrade, supplied both of their straps (80cm / 2.6ft and 1.5m / 4.9ft), and for the style they used their Highlight colours offering. As with the Signature Colour on the Kraken, this is something I haven’t seen before, and I absolutely adore it. While I’m not sure how it is achieved, basically it means that whilst the toy is mostly made of black silicone, a neon green has been applied to the raised points (you get to choose which colours are used, although in this case Odyssey chose for me, so I don’t know the exact shades), creating this incredibly effective gradient that gives an amazing level of depth to the scene, in addition to just looking downright cool. And as an upgrade it is actually pretty reasonable too, being only one third the price of the Signature Colour option, and, in my opinion, even better looking. Finally, in regards to its functionality, the Coffin Grinder is a more traditional grinder than the Kraken, not offering any penetration. Instead, whilst there is a lot going on visually, it is really only the large tentacle at the front that will offer stimulation during play, making this toy more akin to my Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II than my other tentacle toys.

Packaging

My order for the Coffin Grinder was placed with Odyssey Toys on the 29th of November. Since it came with the Kraken Grinder, you can check out that review for a closer look at my experience receiving the package, but ultimately it arrived on the 17th of December, which I thought was a good time frame for a custom-made product coming from the UK to Australia during the Christmas period. Once it arrived, all of the items were safely packaged in a box, which was 100% discreet, with no mention of who sent it or what was inside. Also included were some leaflets for both Godemiche and Odyssey Toys, both with discount codes for further orders and care advice, as well as some candy and a bamboo toothbrush. Apparently this is something they include with all orders, and it is a genius and incredibly kind move, since you’re absolutely going to need it when cleaning a toy as heavily textured as this. The Coffin Grinder was then packaged with its straps and the Rocks Off RO-80mm in a sealed zip-lock plastic bag, the same as my Kraken Grinder. And as usual I am all for this pared back packaging, as being able to reuse this bag allows for barely any wastage.

My Experience

The first way I attempted to use the Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder was strapped to my Liberator Jaz. As with the Kraken Grinder, both the 80cm / 2.6ft and 1.5m / 4.9ft straps worked for this, but since the smaller straps only just fit, I opted to go with the longer of the two. Straddling it, I then found it to be the easiest of all my grinders to get onto. I didn’t need to worry about angling myself properly for insertion, whilst the height and shape of the toy meant I was able to have it comfortably pressed against all of me, a far more enjoyable experience than some of the thinner grinders I have, such as the Darque Path Grind. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the Coffin Grinder has the best shape for riding that I’ve tried. This is due to the saddle-like design of the tentacle, which dips in the middle, making it easier to rub against than a toy like the Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II, which does the opposite. Although even with this, comparing the Coffin Grinder to the Kraken Grinder and Tentacle Grinder II is difficult, as they have something it does not: insertion. And you know how much I have been enjoying that, not just from a pleasure stand-point, but from my fantasy roleplaying mindset. So, with this in mind, I can’t help but enjoy those two toys more than the Coffin Grinder. But, if we remove insertion from the equation, then the Coffin Grinder is absolutely my favourite non-penetrative grinder for riding on the Jaz. Another reason for this is the silicone density used, being Odyssey Toy’s Extra Soft upgrade, which is actually still firmer than the Tentacle Grinder II. This means that the texture on the Coffin Grinder is even more prominent than on the Tentacle Grinder II, allowing me to fully enjoy those suckers and ridges, whilst simultaneously being softer than the Kraken Grinder, for a more comfortable ride and less soreness afterwards.

Moving onto trying the Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder on my back, I again had a great experience. Since so much of the Kraken Grinder revolved around its penetrative abilities in this position, the two weren’t really comparable other than the silicone density again being far more my preference. So in this regard, really only the Tentacle Grinder II comes close to the Coffin Grinder, as again the Darque Path Maera and Grind are just too flat to really make the same kind of impact. I quickly found that the easiest way to hold the Coffin Grinder is so that the bullet hole is on the opposite side of where my hand is placed, so it doesn’t affect my grip. Rubbing it against me then feels great, and is basically akin to a levelled up version of masturbating with my hand. Plus, with clitoral vibrators and stimulators often being so noisy, it is always a welcome change to enjoy quality clitoral pleasure that is also quiet. Compared to the Tentacle Grinder II, I again prefer the density of the Coffin Grinder, allowing me to feel the texture more prominently, and in addition the Coffin Grinder just feels fuller, due to its larger size and smaller bullet hole. This means there is more silicone weight for me to press against myself, thus heightening pleasure. So all up, the Coffin Grinder is also my favourite non-penetrative grinder for play on my back!

The Bullet

Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder and Rocks Off RO-80mm
Not the easiest picture to take, but here’s the Rocks Off RO-80mm inserted into the Coffin Grinder, alongside a generous heaping of lubricant, to allow for removal.

At this point I probably have more than twenty Rocks Off RO-80mm Bullets floating around my house. They’ve got to be the best selling bullet vibrator of all time, and almost every time a bullet compatible sex toy has one included, it is the RO-80mm. Since I am so familiar with it, I was happy to see it included with the Coffin Grinder, especially after my frustrations with the white-label bullet included with the Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II. While it’s not comparable to many USB rechargeable bullets, for its price and what it is, the RO-80mm always impresses, offering ample vibrations across its seven speeds, four of which are patterns. Running off a LR1 AM5 N Size 1.5V battery, which is included, it is then also waterproof, making things easy. Now, the hole on the Coffin Grinder is unlike any bullet hole I’ve seen before. Usually these will be on the end of the toy, so that the vibrator may be simply slid in. But Odyssey Toys have opted to do things a little differently here, instead having a L-shaped hole where you’ll need to first insert the bullet into the base, and then angle it to enter the centre of the grinder. This isn’t too tricky, but the downside to it is accessing the bullet to turn it on or change the speeds once it is in, and in many ways it actually makes me miss the remote-controlled bullet of the Tentacle Grinder II. The vibrations do make up for this though, and I’m happy to just place the RO-80mm on its highest steady speed and leave it there, so this difficulty only really comes into play at the end of a session. Still, it does mean that I only use the bullet when I’m on my back, as needing to have it constantly on when the Coffin Grinder is strapped to my Liberator Jaz just isn’t really feasible, as not only is very loud when inserted (due to the silicone amplifying the sounds), but it’s also just a waste of the battery. Additionally, I’ve found that the bullet hole can stretch to accommodate a variety of other bullets, such as the We-Vibe Tango X and Doxy Bullet, although while these do offer stronger vibrations, they are even more difficult to control than the included bullet. So due to all this, whilst I do like the Rocks Off RO-80mm, I can’t help but feel an app or remote-controlled vibrator, such as the Lovehoney Fired Up Bullet, is really needed here if you want to make the most of the bullet compatibility of the Coffin Grinder, particularly if you plan on using the straps to attach it to something.

Cleaning & Care

An upside to the Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder over the Kraken Grinder is that it’s easier to clean. This is as it won’t be going inside of you, so there’s less mess to begin with, and less chance of issues if you aren’t 100% thorough. After use, I’d suggest just soaking it in some warm soapy water, and then going over it briefly with the included toothbrush. The same can then be done for the Rocks Off RO-80mm since this is also waterproof. After this, just rinse them off and leave to air dry, before returning them to the zip lock bag they came in. Plus, don’t forget that you’ll want to avoid using silicone-based lubricants with this product, as they may damage the material it is made out of.

Final Thoughts

Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder close up

I’m a big fan of the recent wave of penetrative grinders we’ve been seeing, and so going into this review I knew that the Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder wasn’t really going to be able to compete. But that didn’t matter to me, as I just wanted to showcase this beautiful work of art on my website so that everyone could fall in love with it the way that I have. And whilst I did prefer the insertion of the Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II and the Odyssey Toys Kraken Grinder, I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed the Coffin Grinder in use too. I’ve always been a big fan of using my Liberator Jaz to ride grinders, and the saddle-like shape of this toy made the whole experience feel more natural and comfortable than ever before, allowing the pressure of that prominent texture to be evenly distributed across my vulva, maximising pleasure. Plus, the density of it was the perfect middle ground between the Tentacle Grinder II and Kraken Grinder, being firm enough to feel each sucker, yet soft enough to not leave me sore after use. Using it on my back was then also a joy, and it is here that the included Rocks Off RO-80mm shined most. With all this in mind, it goes without saying that the Odyssey Toys Coffin Grinder is my new favourite non-penetrative grinder, and for anyone who prefers the original external intention of these products, this is for you.
