Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R

It’s not too often I get really excited about being sent a product these days. But when Nikki Darling recently announced they would be bringing the NoFrillDo by Funkit Toys to Australia, I knew I had to get one. I’ve been interested in the creations of Funkit Toys for a few years now, and even wrote about their Signet, a silicone ring designed to help further stimulate the clitoris when masturbating with your hand, early last year in my Top New Sex Toys I Want in 2017 post. Unfortunately, the Signet was part of a crowd-funding campaign which didn’t make its goal, and so I never ended up testing it out. But then late last year Funkit decided to try their luck at crowdfunding once more, this time for the NoFrillDo, and it was an astounding success, raising 465% of its goal. Obviously this caught my eye, and so I was over the moon when I heard they would soon be available to purchase in my own country. Nikki Darling must have read my mind, because soon after they asked me whether I wanted to review one!

The Brand

Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R End

While you’d probably assume Funkit Toys is a big company, it is actually just one amazing artist creating all these toys and cultivating this brand. Kenton, a sex educator, graphic designer, and 3D modeller, decided to combine his skills to create Funkit Toys and has been really making a name for himself in the sex toy industry for the last few years. His toys are all very unique and different, and you can tell this is someone who really thinks outside the box. He even introduced the sex toy industry to translucent silicone, which I didn’t think was a possibility until he started using it. Most of all, he strives to ensure all of his toys are body-safe, as well as relatively low-cost, and this is more obvious than ever with the release of his hugely popular NoFrillDo range. In addition to his dildos, Funkit Toys also produces a range of paddles, floggers, and other various silicone and wooden toys.

Product Description

The concept behind the NoFrillDo is really all in the name. They are designed to be as simple as possible, with ‘no frills’, so that they can be as cheap as possible while still being body-safe. Despite that they still look pretty amazing and I find their designs incredibly refreshing. They come in four gorgeous colours using the CMYK colour scheme, which is Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black, and in three great designs, which is the spiral-style R, the G-Spot-style G, and the shorter / thicker style B (and if you’re a graphic design nerd like me, you’ll adore these names). For this review I’m taking a look at model R in its Cyan colour.

The silicone the toy is made out of has a good amount of squish to it, although it is probably the most tacky silicone I’ve ever experienced. This doesn’t really effect use, but it does mean it will attract ALL the dust, and likely require extra cleaning. The mold for the silicone has also been clearly 3D printed, as the typical layering effect is visible on the toy, although again this won’t effect use. Overall this toy is pretty small, with an insertable length of 17cm / 6.75″ and a diameter of 3cm / 1.25″, but if you prefer something bigger then you’re in luck because Funkit Toys just finished successfully crowdfunding a Series 2 of the range, which contains X, a ribbed and thicker version, and L, a longer version, so you should be able to order these soon. Since the toy has a good base this dildo is both anal-safe and harness compatible.

Packaging

Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R Bag

Nikki Darling sent my order on the 8th of November and I received it on the 11th, which was a fantastic turnaround. As usual the parcel was completely discreet, with no mention of the sender or what was inside on the box. It seems the concept of NoFrillDo’s simplicity extends to its packaging as well, with it also being about as basic as possible. The toy just comes in a simple plastic zip-lock bag that has a small sticker on it which features the NoFrillDo logo. While I do love fancy packaging, this is perfectly reasonable and is another way Funkit Toys allows the NoFrillDo to be sold at such a low price. Plus you can reuse the bag as a storage solution, which I always love to have. My only negative here is that the dildo did come with a fair bit of what I assume is cat hair on it. Since the silicone is so tacky, and cat hair seems to get on everything ever, I understand this. But this is my opinion as a cat lover. I can totally imagine that someone who does not like animals, or is maybe even allergic to cats, would not like this. Even if you do like cats, it would also just be totally reasonable for you to not want your new dildo to come covered in hair. So yeah, not great. [EDIT 1/12/18: Kenton has since reassured me that he has now moved and so cat hair should no longer be an issue!]

My Experience

Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R Middle

The Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R ranks in as my second smallest dildo, only being beaten out by the tiny Tantus Splish. While it is close in size to my Godemiche Ambit and BS Atelier Alex, both of these more phallic dildos have a prominent head which adds that extra bit of width to them. Due to this I have absolutely no issue inserting this toy, even without any prior arousal. The spiral texture of NoFrillDo R is very obvious in use, and I really dig it. Surprisingly this is my first dildo with this type of design, despite lusting over every Unicorn Horn dildo in existence, and it feels just as good as I had imagined it would, if not better. Since the toy is not shaped to be able to hit my G-Spot or A-Spot, thrusting it is all I can really do, which I would generally find pretty boring. But with the spiral design it completely elevates the feeling of thrusting the toy, and makes it far more pleasurable. I’ve found my favourite way to use it is to thrust it whilst I also turn it with my hand, so that it feels like it is moving in and out with the direction of the spiral. This method just creates a really satisfying feeling that I’ve come to love. Unfortunately it’s not very practical when I need to thrust the toy fast enough to achieve orgasm, so I usually just use this ‘screwing’ method to warm up or as foreplay. When it’s time to finish though I still get a lot out of just thrusting it regularly, and it lets me achieve very strong and quick orgasms.

Cleaning & Care

Since the toy is made of body-safe silicone, cleaning it is super easy. Just wipe it down with some warm soapy water, rinse it, and leave to air dry. It can then be returned to its provided storage bag. If you are planning on switching it between partners or between vaginal to anal use make sure you sterilise it by boiling it for 5 minutes. Ensure you only use water-based lubricants with this or perform a spot test prior to using alternatives.

Final Thoughts

Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R Base

Overall, I really love the Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R. It doesn’t compare to my larger A-Spot or G-Spot dildos, but as a smaller toy it really excels and is easily one of the best I have tried. I’ve already decided that this will now become my main warm-up dildo, replacing the BS Atelier Alex in this regard. It’s really all in that spiral-design, which I just find so immensely satisfying and pleasurable to thrust in and out, especially when also using a screwing motion. Plus it also feels great to support such a small business run by an artisan clearly so passionate about his work. This might be a ‘no frills’ toy, but it is certainly as good as an intricately designed luxury toy, so for the price it’s being sold at this is a real steal. Whether you are a complete beginner looking for your first dildo, or a toy collector like me looking for something different to add to your collection, this is a fantastic choice.

You can get the NoFrillDo R directly from Funkit Toys for just $37 AUD / $24 USD!
