Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator

Wand massagers are easily one of my favourite, if not my absolute favourite, types of sex toys. The best toy I’ve ever tried is one of them, and while they aren’t as versatile as perhaps bullet vibrators or suction toys, you really can’t beat the orgasms you get with them. So it’s surprising to see that it has been well over a year since I last reviewed one. There isn’t really a good reason for this, but if I had to suggest one I would say that the wand vibrator industry has been a little quiet lately, and so there really just hasn’t been anything that has caught my eye enough to request it for review. This changed however, when Lovehoney contacted me last month about reviewing their brand new Desire App-Controlled Knicker Vibrator, and at the same time asked if there was anything else from their luxury Desire range I’d be interested in. It then only took one look at their store for my eyes to be instantly drawn to their uniquely shaped Desire Wand Vibrator.

The Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator is my fourth product from Lovehoney’s new luxury toy line Desire, which features a range of classic sex toys that have been re-imagined using body-safe silicone, a purple and black colour scheme, and various other features you’d typically see on higher end toys, but all for a reasonable cost. Other than the visual appearance of this toy it is basically just a regular wand massager, but it was this which first drew me to it. Rather than the typical round head connected to a handle by a thin neck, this vibrator is one solid piece and features a head which is shaped similar to a saddle, with a angled flat-surface that also has a raised bump. Silky smooth yet firm silicone covers the entirety of the toy, and as with the rest of the Desire range this only comes in purple. In addition to the silicone there is also a small amount of black ABS plastic applied to the toy, with one piece separating the head from the handle and the other piece covering the charging port, however the glue that has been applied to stick the silicone down around these areas is peeling, and as such I feel these were an unnecessary addition that takes away from the otherwise luxurious nature of the toy. Lastly, this toy has three buttons which are debossed into the silicone, and is waterproof, USB rechargeable, and travel lockable.

Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator Packaging and Instructions

My order for the Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator was placed with Lovehoney on the 18th of September, and I promptly received it on the 24th. As usual Lovehoney’s postal box was completely discreet, with no mention of the sender or what was inside. Then, since this isn’t my first toy from Lovehoney’s Desire range, I had a good idea of what to expect from the packaging. Similar to Lovehoney’s regular cardboard box packaging, the Desire range swaps out their usual white and pink boxes for its branded colours of black and purple, instantly giving the products a much more luxurious feel than the usual range. The box’s exterior features a picture of the toy and information on it, and then opening it up lets you remove a large storage case, which also contains the toy, instruction manual, and a charging cord. I already spoke a lot about how fantastic this faux leather and lockable storage case is in my Desire App-Controlled Knicker Vibrator review, so I won’t go into too much detail here, but the one you receive with this toy is even better as it is larger. Not only does it easily fit the toy and everything else that’s included, but you could probably fit a few more toys in too, and there is even a divider to keep things separate! Whether the Desire Wand Vibrator ends up being good or not, this is 100% my toy travel case now and you can check out some photos of it in all its glory here.

Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator Charging

Charging the Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator is easy as it is USB rechargeable. Just plug one end of the charger into a USB port and the other end into the charging point on the toy. When charging a light on the toy will flash, and when it is fully charged this light will become solid. Charging should then take around 150 minutes, and this should give you around 120 minutes of playtime. Additionally, when the battery is running low the toy’s light will quickly flash to indicate this.

Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator Buttons

The toy features three buttons which are labelled with a plus, a minus, and a circle, however controlling it is far less easy than it might seem, and I unfortunately have numerous issues with how it functions. Firstly, to turn it on you must hold down the plus button, and this will place you on the first out of eight modes, which is the toy’s steady speed, but on the medium intensity of that steady speed (out of the 12 available intensities). I like to start my toys on their lowest speed which is typically the norm, so this was a bit annoying, but not to worry I thought, I’ll just decrease the intensity with the minus button! Well, this does work, but once you hit the lowest intensity (which there is no way of knowing unless you count), if you click the minus button again then the toy will turn off. Not only does this mean when I first start using it I have to be conscious of how many times I decrease the intensity to avoid it turning off on me, but it also makes me paranoid every time I turn the toy down during edging. Other than this you’re able to use the Desire Wand Vibrator as you’d expect, increasing and decreasing the intensities by pressing or holding down the plus and minus buttons, and changing the modes by pressing the circle button. The next difficulty however, then comes when you want to turn off the toy, whether its for discretion reasons, because you’ve finished, or because you’ve accidentally turned the pattern modes on and don’t want to click through 8 modes to get back to the steady steady. It turns out that the issue I was having with the toy turning off when I lower its intensity down to 0 is the only way to turn it off, which means if you’re at full speed you have to hold the minus button down and have it decrease slowly… which at 6 seconds is easily the slowest off function of any toy I’ve tried.

The Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator also features a travel lock, and this can be activated by holding the plus and minus buttons down for three seconds whilst the toy is off, with success being indicated by the toy vibrating two times. You can then deactivate the lock by again holding down the two buttons, or by putting the toy on charge.

Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator Storage Case

As shockingly frustrating as the controls were the first time I turned this toy on, I was also at the same time thoroughly impressed with the vibrations coming out of it. Not only are they strong but they are super rumbly, and while still not as powerful as some of my more robust wand massagers, like the Magic Wand Rechargeable or Doxy, for a toy of its size and price tag I am super pleased with them. Unfortunately though the strong vibrations do mean this toy is rather loud and as such I wouldn’t recommend it to you if discretion is important, however it is still quieter than most wand massagers.

Aside from the difficulties I’ve been having with the buttons on this toy I really enjoy using it. While I love the strong and rumbly vibrations, the best bit of the Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator for me is also the thing that first made me want it: its shape. I’ve never had a vibrator that is shaped like this before, and I’m totally obsessed with it. It’s just so versatile, as there are so many different ways to hold it against yourself which all create unique sensations. Plus, if I hold the whole thing against my vulva then it gives off an overwhelmingly broad sensation, and then if I move it so just the bump is against my clit it quickly changes to a pin-point feeling. I’ve used toys before that have the ability to offer these two different types of stimulation, but I have to say this toy is perhaps the most successful I have tried at perfectly capturing the essence of each. Then, being able to quickly switch between these two depending on my mood means that I am able to have super strong and satisfying orgasms with this toy.

Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator

Cleaning the Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator is easy since it is waterproof. Just wash it with some warm water and soap, and then leave to air dry before returning it to its included storage pouch. Additionally, make sure to only use water-based lubricants with it.

I really loved using the Lovehoney Desire Wand Vibrator, but the controls for it just baffled me, especially coming from such an experienced brand. While there was numerous issues, it all really came down to the way the off function has been designed. By having it so that the only way to turn it off was by using the minus button to essentially turn the toy’s intensity down to zero, it not only meant that trying to put it on its lowest intensity became a nightmare, but it also meant that turning it off while on full power made it take a ridiculously long time. Six seconds may not sound like a lot, but trust me when you’re in the middle of things it feels like a lifetime. Still, if you think you can deal with this, then this is certainly a fantastic wand massager, and as awful as they are to control, offering 8 modes with 12 intensities each is actually amazingly generous. Plus, this toy also retails for significantly less than most massagers on the market, so it’s definitely an ideal pick if you want something cheaper to start with.

Sadly, the Lovehoney Desire Wand has now been discontinued.
