Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance

While they still might not accepted by websites like Facebook and Instagram, sex toys have certainly ditched a lot of their associated stigma over the last few years. They’ve gone from something that was incredibly private, to something that now many people are not only happy to express a desire for, but to also admit that they own. Plus, what could originally only be purchased from shady looking stores where companies would seek to take advantage of customers by selling them products made with unsafe materials, can now be bought in the comfort of your own home on inclusive websites that promote and educate about body-safe options. As with anything that becomes popular however, it has meant that now even previously established brands are looking to cash in on it. I spoke a lot about this recently in my Future of Sex Toys post, and it’s something I believe we’re only seeing the beginning of. It’s an idea that has intrigued me though, as despite their inexperience in this industry, brands do have a reputation to keep up and thus incentive to create high quality products. So, when My Little Secret contacted me recently and asked if I wanted to review Cosmopolitan’s new range of toys, starting with their G-Spot Romance, I couldn’t resist.

Before I begin, as this is my first time working with My Little Secret for a review, I thought I’d give them a quick introduction. Currently one of my blog sponsors, My Little Secret are an Australian based retailer that opened with the aim to “only offer the very best of the best” in sex toys, and I believe they are upholding those words fabulously so far. Featuring only body-safe toys, they stock some of the best and most luxurious brands in the business, with names such as We-Vibe, SVAKOM and Womanizer lining their virtual shelves. Then, offering a flat-rate of $12.95 AUD, with orders over $70 receiving it for free, you can also enjoy discreet packaging and a 30 day guarantee. Plus, if they lower the price of something you purchase or you see it elsewhere for cheaper within 6 months of your purchase, they’ll refund you the difference.

Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance Handle

It’s pretty hard to have not heard of Cosmopolitan before. The women focused fashion and lifestyle magazine is published around the world, with 64 different editions (although sadly next month is Australia’s last after 45 years), and lead the way for people like me by sharing sex positive articles when Helen Gurley Brown took over in 1965. Despite massive criticism, Brown, who was a devout feminist, used her time at the magazine to promote her progressive views on women and sex, believing that they should be allowed to talk about and enjoy it without shame or guilt. These days sex is an integral part of the magazine, so it was only a matter of time before they released their own line of sex toys. Partnering with Romance Brands, the Cosmo line of toys is their first, and each item is made with premium quality in mind. Currently offering only a few different styles of vibrators however, such as a rabbit, bullet, and wand, I do think the line lacks creativity, as not only have they just copied the classic designs but there is also nothing unique about them, especially considering their pink and purple colour scheme. Despite this, being made with only body-safe materials as well as being waterproof and USB rechargeable are certainly steps in the right direction, so for their first line of toys I still think they’ve done a good job.

The Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance is basically just your typical G-Spot vibrator. There are, however, three points of difference that do set it apart from the rest in my collection. First up is the sleek indented lines that run the whole length of it, although while these look good they serve no practical purpose other than to make cleaning it incredibly frustrating. Second is the hole at the end which is designed to be an ergonomic handle, which reminds me of Fun Factory’s designs. Then, finally, is its size, as while it may look quite slim, it is actually quite large for a vibrator, with a diameter of 1.5″ / 3.8cm and a length of 7.9″ / 20cm. Other than these points the toy is then just what you’d expect from an internal vibe. It’s covered in silicone, and while it is firm to the touch the shaft is bendable. It then only has one button, which is located at the base of the handle, as well as a single Cosmopolitan logo on one side, keeping its design simple everywhere but the handle. I say this because even with the claims of being ergonomic, the handle just looks plain weird, from its shape to its line work, and it honestly makes me think less of a sex toy and more of a sci-fi video game gun… which probably isn’t what they were going for, but I kinda love it? One downside to the otherwise modern appearance however is the visible seam running down its middle. Lastly, in keeping with the range’s “high-tech” nature, (although this sort of thing is basically just the standard in 2019) this toy is both USB rechargeable and fully waterproof.

Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance Packaging and Instructions

My order for the Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance was placed with My Little Secret around the start of October and I received it on the 11th. The package was completely discreet, with no mention of the sender or what was inside. The actual box for the toy was then quite luxurious, with a white and gold colour scheme showing off pictures of the toy and information on it. Made from hard cardboard, you can then slide out the inner compartment of the box from its exterior sleeve to reveal the contents, which are the toy, a charging cord, a very brief and small instruction sheet, a warranty information sheet (which is a five year replacement warranty), and a final information sheet which offers you a code and instructions to redeem a free Cosmopolitan magazine subscription. I’m not exactly sure how long this subscription is supposed to be for, but unfortunately for me it doesn’t matter, as not only did the code included expire on the 31st of April 2019, but it is also only valid in the UK. Overall I am happy with the packaging, however considering this is supposed to be a luxury toy I did expect it to come with a storage bag, and this combined with brief instructions and expired subscription is certainly a bit off-putting.

Charging the Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance is easy as it is USB rechargeable. Just plug one end into a USB port and the other end into the charging hole on the back of the toy. The toy arrives with a partial charge, but Cosmo recommend you fully charge it before use, and to not over charge it. When charging a light on the toy will flash, and once done this light will remain solid. Charging should then take about 2 hours, and this will give you around 2.5 hours of play time.

Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance Charging

Since there is only one button on this toy using it is very straight-forward and easy to understand. Firstly, to turn it on you just need to hold the button down for two seconds, and this will put the toy on its lowest steady speed. You can then press the button again to cycle through 7 modes, 3 of which are steady speeds and 4 of which are pattern modes. When done you can then turn the toy off by again holding the button down for two seconds. I can’t fault any of this, it is all exactly how I think a one button toy should function (which surprisingly is not always the case) and I think there is a good balance of steady speeds versus patterns.

As this is my first Cosmopolitan brand toy I had no idea what to expect with the vibrations, and I am sad to say I was a more than a bit disappointed the first time I turned it on. The vibrations that come out of it are the very definition of buzzy, and while some people may enjoy that, I am not one of them. This is as buzzy vibes don’t penetrate as deeply as my preferred rumbly vibes, so they usually just leave me feeling itchy and numb. The good thing, however, is that I am a lot less particular about internal vibes than I am about clitoral ones, so hopefully this won’t matter in use, as they are otherwise fairly strong. In addition to this I do find the toy to be quite quiet, so this may be good if discretion is important to you.

Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance Head

Since this toy is quite wide and also completely firm I do need to warm up prior to using it, which feels a little strange as it is my first G-Spot vibrator where I have had to do this. What’s more, the silicone on the toy is also quite draggy, which can also hinder insertion and means that more lube than normal needs to be used. So to combat these issues I use lots of YES WB Lubricant, the Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R, and sometimes even the Tantus Pack ‘n Play No.2 to start off with.

Once inside the Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance easily finds its way to my G-Spot, however once it’s there not much else happens. I’ve tested a lot of fantastic G-Spot toys at this point, and while this certainly does hit it and feel good (which honestly is an achievement in itself, as not all G-Spot toys even manage this much due to mine being further back than most), it doesn’t really offer anything more, especially in comparison to some of the others. This is due to the fact that the curve isn’t as wide as some of my other G-Spot toys, which means it can’t stimulate me as much, and also because the mid-shaft of this toy is wider than usual, which means I don’t have as much room to manoeuvre the toy. Then there is the ergonomic handle, which doesn’t feel so ergonomic in use, as I have to hold my hand in an odd position and put all of the pressure on the top bump, which can leave me sore. Things don’t get much better either when I turn the vibrations on, in fact they get worse. I thought with this being an internal toy the buzzy vibrations wouldn’t matter, but it turns out they really really do, as instead of being pleasurable they just leave me feeling itchy and frustrated. Plus, they also drown out whatever clitoral vibrator I’m using, so the only way for me to really use this toy is with the vibrations turned off. Despite all of this I did enjoy trying the Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance, and pairing it with a good clitoral vibrator, such as the Nu Sensuelle Point, gave me some great orgasms.

Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance Handle and Button

Cleaning the Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance is relatively easy since it is made from silicone and is waterproof, however you do need to put a little bit more care in than usual due to the indented lines around the toy. To start just throw it in some soapy water and give it a wash, and then use a spare toothbrush to clean around these lines as bacteria may hide there otherwise. After this you can just rinse it and leave to air dry, and then you can either store it in the box it came with or a zip-lock bag to keep it clean between uses. Make sure to not use silicone-based lubricant with this product, as it may react badly to the silicone it is made of, but if you do then first perform a spot test.

The Cosmopolitan G-Spot Romance is actually a pretty good toy. It may not be anything special, but it controls nicely and stimulates my G-Spot well enough to give me some pretty good orgasms. So, what’s the catch? Well… that would be its price tag. This toy retails for $139.39 AUD / $96 USD, which is a price that should be buying you something a lot better than pretty good. This is the sort of toy where if you were to give it to me without me knowing the price tag and told me to guess, I’d estimate it to be about $40 AUD / $30 USD. In fact, the last G-Spot vibrator I reviewed cost only $30 AUD / $22 USD and that was better than this one. Other than the ridiculous price, the three biggest downsides to this toy for me were the unusable vibrations, unnecessary cleaning required due to the purposeless indented lines, and the size. I’ve never had to warm-up for a G-Spot vibrator before, and so if I am going to go to all that effort it really needs to either be better than my other toys or offer something different, and not only did it not deliver on those fronts, but the size also contributed to the issues I had with its use. Overall, even though I did enjoy the toy I can’t recommend it in good conscious due to the price, and while I think for their first range of toys Cosmopolitan have done an alright job, they definitely need to either lower their prices or come out with something that is actually worthy of them.
