I’m someone who values quality over quantity, which is a trait you’ll notice many of my favourite sex toy manufacturers share. Yet even I have been starting to get a little impatient waiting for the next Hot Octopuss release. I’ve tried every single one of their vaginal toys (as well as a few of their masturbators) since they started making them back in 2017, although while that sounds impressive there have actually only been four, with one of those since being discontinued. It has to be one of the smallest collections of any award-winning adult brand, but whatever they’re doing it’s working, with all three of the currently available products being absolutely top notch and some of the best toys I own. Yet it’s now been almost four years since the last release, so where’s my new obsession? Well, it turns out we have to first go back to that discontinued toy.

Last week we celebrated Magic Wand Day. How many other sex toys have holidays dedicated just to them? I can’t think of any, but then again no other toy really compares. It’s been 56 years now since the trademark application for the original Magic Wand was approved and an icon was born. I myself got my first Magic Wand, the Rechargeable, on my 20th birthday, and as my thirties quickly approach, there is no doubt that this is my most used sex toy of all time. It also goes to show the quality that’s put into these things, as despite using it at least once a week for the past nine years, I’ve never had so much as the slightest issue. Its more recent versions, the Magic Wand Plus and Mini, have been similarly beloved, although I was unsure what could possibly be next on the horizon, foolishly thinking that the Mini was surely as small as it gets. Well, Vibratex have certainly proved me wrong, with the release of the Magic Wand Micro!

Review: Pink Punch Sunset Mushroom

Pink Punch Sunset MushroomOne of the most memorable products I’ve reviewed this year so far has to be the Pink Punch Peachu. Whilst the suction toy sadly wasn’t able to satisfy me as well as I hoped, I was blown away by every other aspect of it. Despite being a relatively new brand with only one other product under their belt, Pink Punch had clearly applied a high level of thought and consideration into their flagship stimulator, with the design of the toy itself and everything else relating to it being exceptional. The Peachu, based appropriately on a peach, is a mini work of art, as is its discreet packaging, unique storage case (which doubled as a charging dock), and cyberpunk-style phone app for long-distance control. So, when that review was done, the only thing on my mind was getting my hands on Pink Punch’s other release, the Sunset Mushroom.

YoYoLemon Mini Wand

Wand massagers are my second favourite type of sex toy (for a long time they were my first, until my love for suction toys finally won out), although until recently I hadn’t really reviewed that many. Over the last few weeks, however, I’ve shared my thoughts on a huge range of shapes and sizes, and all at a lower price point than I usually review. Last week’s post seemed to be a culmination of this, with it not only being my longest massager ever, but my cheapest, and it was pretty dang good too. But I’m not done yet, because this week I’m turning around and going in the opposite direction, with the smallest massager I’ve reviewed so far. In fact, the YoYoLemon Mini Wand is so small, I’m not even sure calling it a wand is appropriate. Thankfully size is the only big difference between this toy and the Funzze Massager, though, as at just $60 AUD / $40 USD it is still very reasonably priced.

It’s been five months now since I moved, and yet I’ve only just finished unpacking all of my sex toys. Rather than having a bedside table filled with all the wonderful perks of my job like usual during this time, I instead had to choose just one toy to get me by. My selection, of course, had to be my beloved Magic Wand Rechargeable, which remains my favourite toy despite also being one of the oldest offerings in my collection. Spending all of this quality time with a wand massager really reminded me just how much I love them, and even though they may not be the trendiest toy right now, they are still unbeatable in terms of versatility and power. Navigating the world of sex toys as a non-binary queer person is not easy. Go to almost any online sex store, and you’ll see a menu with categories like “female”, “male”, “couples”, “gay” and “lesbian”. But where do I fit? I could choose female, my gender assigned at birth, but what if I want a toy I can use solo and with a partner, and what if I don’t know the gender of said partner? It gives me a headache just thinking about it, and that’s as someone with almost a decade of experience in the industry. So I can’t imagine the difficulties that arise for someone new to all this, regardless of how you identify. Because at the end of the day, it’s all bullshit. Sex toys have no gender or sexuality, and the vast majority of them can be used by anyone, regardless of your genitals or preference of partner. So when Betty’s Toy Box (one of the few retailers doing the right thing by categorising toys by type and which body part they stimulate) recently introduced me to Evolved Novelties’ new brand Gender X, which offers a range of gender-neutral sex toys, I signed right up to review the Sunflower.
