Uberrime Dr. Manhattan

Some time ago I read a review on the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan, a dildo based on one of my favourite characters from the Watchmen comic series, and decided I had to have one. But then I checked its measurements, and like many of the fantasy toys I spend my time lusting after (see also: the Uberrime Cthulhu and anything from Pleasure Forge), I determined it was probably too big for me. After reviewing the Uberrime Ripley Alien back in July however, it gave me a new outlook on what my limits were. That toy was made with a super soft silicone I’d never experienced before, and it meant I could take its large size a lot easier than expected. So once that review was done, I had another look at the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan, and found that it used the same silicone. Apparently that was enough for me to decide that it would be my next dildo for review, and so as SheVibe agreed to send the product out to me I crossed my fingers that I’d actually be able to use it!

The Uberrime Dr. Manhattan is now the largest dildo I own in regards to both length and width, and by a fair margin too. With a maximum diameter of 4.65cm / 1.83″ and insertable length of 20.3cm / 8″, it easily surpasses my previous largest toy, the Tantus Uncut #1, which had a maximum diameter of 4.5cm / 1.75″ and insertable length of 19cm / 7.45″. As Tantus use a firmer silicone than Uberrime, it takes a lot of warming up before I am able to use the Uncut #1, and as such I’ve always figured there wasn’t much point in getting anything larger than this. But after experiencing the soft shore 5 silicone that the Uberrime Ripley Alien is made with, and seeing that the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan is also made from it, I figured there was probably a good chance that I would finally be able to take things up a notch.

There is a lot more to this toy than just its size however, as the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan is truly a beautiful dildo. With a colour scheme of aqua blue mixed with hints of silver (to mimic the comic book character’s colours), the silicone on this toy is addicting to the touch and has a beautiful glittery shimmer to it. Since all of Uberrime’s products are hand-made, the arrangement of the silver areas are unique on each toy, and I’m really pleased with how mine turned out. Additionally, the base of the toy also features a unique pattern, and as usual Uberrime have turned this into a mini work of art. While it is obviously long and towers over my other toys, it doesn’t actually look very wide, and I’ve have multiple people confused about the fact that this toy is larger than the Uberrime Ripley Alien (it’s true!). This is likely because while the Ripley Alien has a lot going on texture wise, the Dr. Manhattan is a lot more simple and sleek, making it appear smaller. What’s more, the widest point of this toy is around its head, while its actual shaft only has a diameter of 4cm / 1.59″, which is the same as the Ripley Alien. On that note, while the shaft does have some raised bumps that make it feel slightly non-realistic, the head is where the main fantasy aspect comes into play, as its hugely prominent ridge is unlike anything I’ve ever used before. As this toy has a base, it is both harness compatible and anal safe, and despite its long length it can actually stand upright by itself. Plus, it wouldn’t really be a Dr. Manhattan toy if it didn’t also glow-in-the-dark, so Uberrime have made sure to include this too!

My order for the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan was placed with SheVibe on the 11th of July and I promptly received it by the 17th, which was an amazing speed considering it was coming from the US to Australia! As usual SheVibe’s packaging was completely discreet, with no mention of who the sender was or what the contents were. Since this is my second Uberrime product I knew to not expect much in the way of packaging as they are only a small indie company. Although I was pleasantly surprised to find that the toy actually came with a black drawstring bag for storage this time. However, while I love having storage bags and especially one of this size (probably the largest I’ve ever received), the bag is very poor quality and practically falling apart, so storing a silicone dildo in it will probably mean it’ll get more messy than if it wasn’t in the bag, which kind of defeats the purpose. Other than this the toy just came in a clear plastic bag with a simple name tag, and a envelope containing an A4 sheet of printed FAQ information (which also had a hand-written thank you note from Uberrime on it!), which is all the same as what I received last time.

Surprisingly, this is somehow my first glow-in-the-dark dildo. I’ve had a light up dildo and a dildo that glowed under UV light before (not that I’ve ever had a UV light to test it with), but never a traditional glow-in-the-dark type. Uberrime recommend first placing the toy under bright lights for awhile, which will then allow it to glow for 30 minutes. When trying it out like this for the first time I was honestly taken aback by just how bright this thing is. With all the lights off, the Dr. Manhattan quite literally glows blue, so much so that I can basically use it like a torch to illuminate things in the room. But even when I don’t “charge” the toy under lights, I find that it still glows regardless, albeit just not as brightly. Having a dick shaped light in my bedroom over the last few weeks has certainly been something I’ve had to get use to every night when I make my 4am toilet trip, and to be honest the first few times it totally freaked me out. While there isn’t really a practical use to this feature, it certainly makes the toy a lot of fun to use in the dark (I don’t think watching a glow-in-the-dark dildo slowly disappear and reappear during use will ever not be funny), and also really just adds to the overall geekiness of the toy, especially when you’re a fan of the character it’s based on.

While this toy doesn’t technically have a suction cup, the way that the silicone on the base has been shaped means that it does act like it has one when placed on flat surfaces. This suction-but-not-suction-cup has caught me off guard more than a few times, where I’ve placed the toy on my desk and then quickly gone to grab it, only for the entire desk to come with it (thank god my computer has survived this review!). Once stuck to something, I cannot remove it by force, and even when being knocked around it doesn’t fall off. All of this works to make the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan one of the best suction cups toys I’ve ever tried, which is totally mind boggling since it doesn’t even have one!

Using the Dr. Manhattan definitely takes some time to warm up, but thankfully once this process is done I can insert it successfully. In fact, even though it’s larger than my previous biggest toy, the Tantus Uncut #1, I actually find it far easier to insert and use, due to both the softer silicone and silkier finish. My warm up routine prior to using the Dr. Manhattan has then been the following toys, in this order, as they all represent gradual increases in size: Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R, Tantus Pack ‘n Play No.2, Tantus Vamp Super Soft, Uberrime Ripley Alien and the Uberrime Spiro.

Once adequately warmed up, I find the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan easy to insert (which is fantastic, as some of my other large toys always felt like they were difficult to insert no matter how much I got myself ready), and this is aided by the tapered head, which makes entering the widest part of the toy a breeze. The head is definitely the most unrealistic part of the toy, so spending some time just enjoying this can be particularly good if you’re looking for that fantasy element, although I will note that taking it out is a lot more difficult than inserting it, due to the way it’s shaped. Then, when inserting its full length, I find that the silky silicone gives off the most wonderful feeling on my insides, one that I could not fully appreciate with the Ripley Alien due to how textured it was. The length of the toy then means that I can either curve it to rub its sides against my walls, which is a incredibly pleasurable feeling that I am not able to achieve with shorter dildos, or thrust it right to the back of me in order to stimulate my A-Spot, which is where the Dr. Manhattan shines the most. Before this my favourite A-Spot dildo was the Tantus Uncut #1, even though my use of it was rare due to its overwhelming size, but the Dr. Manhattan easily takes the feelings this gave me above and beyond. As such, the toy makes me feel immense pleasure when used in this way, and in turn gives me some truly out-of-this-world orgasms.

Since the Uberrime Dr. Manhattan is entirely made of silicone, it is also waterproof, which makes cleaning it a breeze. For general cleaning it is best to wipe it down with warm soapy water and rinse before and after every use. Be careful to also clean around the head ridges though, and for this I’d recommend scrubbing with a soapy toothbrush. If you are switching between partners or vaginal and anal play, then I’d recommend sterilising it by throwing it in the dishwasher, wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution or boiling it for 5 minutes. After, let air dry and then return it to storage. Make sure to only use water-based lubricant with it as other lubes may damage the silicone.

Finishing up with this review feels a bit like a dream. The Uberrime Dr. Manhattan has gone from a toy that I thought was totally out of my reach, to a fantastic addition to my collection I am absolutely head over heels with. Out of all of my previous toys it definitely resembles the Tantus Uncut #1 the most, and while I adore that toy, the amount of warming up I would need to actually use it just made it not practical. So I felt a little crazy when asking SheVibe if I could review a product that’s even bigger, but it all paid off in the end, as the softer silicone Uberrime use meant that not only does it fit, but it’s actually easier to use than the Uncut. The best bit though is that its similarities mean that it gives me the same amazing pleasure that the Uncut did, but in doing so it takes it to a whole new level. Plus, while I love fantasy designs, it is certainly still something I am getting use to, so the subtly of this product meant the feelings it gave me were a lot more familiar than I found Uberrime Ripley Alien. All in all, this is a absolutely fantastic toy for both dildo lovers and geeks, although it is particularly special if you’re both like me!
