Top 10 Sex Toys of 2020

2020 is finally over, and thank FUCK. But before we start “thriving” in 2021 (who am I kidding, it’s already gone to shit), I have one last thing to do! My annual Top 10 Sex Toys Of The Year is a chance for me to look back on all of the products I’ve tested and reviewed over the past 12 months and reflect on those that I not only rated positively at the time, but that I’m still enjoying today. In the five years I’ve been doing this it has become a much-loved end-of-year ritual for me, although this time it had far greater meaning and provided much needed closure on a year that took so much, reminding me that even amongst all the bad there were still moments of joy to be found. At times when things all seemed too much last year, sex toys were one of the few things that helped me through, and it’s my pleasure to be able to share with you those that made the biggest impact. Due to all this I feel that this is perhaps the best Top 10 I’ve done, or at least the one with the most meaning. So, get ready as I attempt to take stock of 2020, look at what’s ahead in 2021, and share my Top 10 Sex Toys of 2020.

2020 was equally and longest and quickest year of my life (my brain is still stuck in March), but at least I’m not alone in feeling this way. It started off with my country being on fire, which saw my first post of the year be a plea for donations (and my first freelance work being to help create the controversial Down-Under Donation Dildo), and things didn’t get much better from there. As I proudly boasted in 2019’s wrap-up, I had work booked this time last year till April, but as soon as that was done, so was I. While I was not directly affected by COVID-19 or Melbourne’s lockdown (which was one of the longest and most intense in the world) since I work from home, my partner was, and his sudden appearance every day in what is essentially my “office” space might have well meant that I was unable to work. This, combined with the stress and inability to predict my life more than a few days in advance during the vast majority of the year, meant that producing content quickly ground to a halt. On top of this, my feline companion for the last 15 years of my life sadly passed away in June, something that I’m still struggling with today. But as I look back, I am still proud of all I have achieved. In fact, here I was thinking I had produced drastically less reviews than normal, when in actuality I found that I completed the same number as in 2019 when tallying them up for this post. Plus, I have put significant effort into my Instagram for the first time, with my recent 12 Days of Christmas collaboration with Lovehoney being a great example of this.

I know it’s cliche, but for 2021 all I really want is to get back to where I was at before the shit hit the fan. I want to get back to a weekly posting schedule, I want to be able to see the bottom of my metaphorical email inbox, and I want to do it all while also being able to go outside. I know I’ve said this for the last two years in a row, but I also swear a visual refresh of the blog’s branding is coming soon, so hold me to it! Another big part of my plans for this year is to branch out and provide content in places other than my blog, with one of those being a deeper focus on Instagram (if they don’t delete my account, that is). I’ve begun investing in the necessary equipment to take my current unboxings, which I post regularly to my Instagram Story, to the next level by properly filming myself and posting them to Instagram TV, which if all goes well could eventually lead to more video content elsewhere, including livestreams. Plus, I’ve begun working closely with new Australian start-up PleasureBase as one of their official Sexpert Toy Reviewers to help bring my expertise to even more people, and this is something I also hope to continue into the new year.

As usual I am super thankful to all the companies who have worked with me in 2020 and put up with the mess that was my schedule during lockdown! This was JOUJOU, Hot OctopussLovehoney, Geeky Sex Toys, ZALO, BestvibeWe-Vibe, For Her Box, Sofia Gray, Doctor Climax, Swing Towns, Rocks Off, Womanizer, Deeper Blue Ceramics, Vibease, Xcitme, Calvista, Magic Men, Nikki Darling, KissKiss, Monster Pub, and PleasureBase. An even bigger thank you then goes out to all my blog sponsors throughout the last 12 months, Sex Toys Heaven, Nikki Darling, Mademoiselle Sexy, Secrexy, Bestvibe, Compare Red, and Monster Pub, as it is only with their support that I am able to afford to run this blog! In 2020 I placed at Number 29 on Molly’s Daily Kiss’s Top 100 Sex Blogs of 2020 and was featured on Kinkly’s Top 100 Sex Blogging Superheroes of 2020. I’m also now at Number 8 on Kinkly’s Top Sex Blogs list, which is an unbelievable honour! Then, while I was unfortunately unable to hold a giveaway for my fifth blogiversary (it was just when things were starting to get really bad with COVID), I did still hold three smaller ones and was able to provide over $1400 worth in prizes thanks to Vibease, Xcitme, and Lovehoney.

Finally, my BIGGEST thank you of the post goes out to all of my subscribers, followers, and readers. I know you’ve heard it all before, but everything I do here, I do for you! Only a few years ago I was the one struggling to make head or tail of this often overwhelming industry, but a blog like this helped me, and it’s my privilege to now do the same for you.

Top 10 Sex Toys of 2020

 Number 10 – ZALO Desire

ZALO Desire

ZALO are one of the most interesting brands on the market right now, yet despite working with them since 2017 this is the first time they’ve made it onto my Top 10. Even more surprising is then the fact that this is the oldest product of theirs that I have reviewed, since while I typically cover new releases this toy saw a departure from that, coming out almost four years ago. As if an answer to my consistent critique that they always try to do too much, the ZALO Desire focuses on just one thing, and that’s being the best goddamn thrusting toy I’ve ever tried. If only they could return to these sorts of refined designs, I think they’d appear here far more often.

You can get the ZALO Desire from JOUJOU for just $209.99 AUD / $152 USD!

 Number 9 – We-Vibe Wand

We-Vibe Wand

The We-Vibe Wand was easily my most anticipated toy of the year (it combines a favourite brand with a favourite type of toy for the first time, after all!), so I can’t help but feel a little disappointed by its low placement on this list. But really it is just up against some fierce competition, since while this toy may not have been perfect, it was still damn good. Similar to ZALO’s products, I just felt it suffered from trying to do too much and fix things that didn’t need it, such as the confusing “joystick” controls. Still, one upgrade that I absolutely can’t fault was its Smart Silence, which is something I hope I see a lot more of in 2021.

Sadly, the We-Vibe Wand has now been discontinued.

Number 8 – Lovehoney Classic Metallic Wand

Lovehoney Classic Metallic Wand

My brain is still struggling to process my choice of putting Lovehoney’s basic bitch Classic Wand over a We-Vibe toy of the same type, but here we are. Where my expectations were high for We-Vibe, they were low for this, and while the Wand over-complicated everything, the Classic Wand knew to follow my personal mantra (and likely that of any student of design), Keep It Simple, Stupid! Easy controls and strong vibrations are all this toy offers, and as far as I’m concerned that’s all it really needs. Plus, for such a reasonable price (especially when you consider the one above) and beauty of their current special Metallic edition, you’d be doing yourself a disservice not owning one of these!

You can get the Lovehoney Classic Wand for just $89.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $69.99 USD at Lovehoney US!

Number 7 – Hot Octopuss AMO

Hot Octopuss AMO

In 2019 I ranked the Hot Octopuss DiGiT at Number 8 on this list, so it’s good to see its successor, the Hot Octopuss AMO, do a little better. As I mentioned then, the only reason the DiGiT didn’t receive a higher spot was because, while I liked the idea of its wearable strap, I ultimately found it a little restrictive. So when I heard the UK brand was re-releasing it without, I couldn’t have been happier. Powerful and rumbly vibrations make this toy a worthy candidate for the clit vibe hall of fame alongside names like the We-Vibe Tango, my only wish now is that its buttons were a little easier to press.

You can get the AMO directly from Hot Octopuss for just $69.95 AUD / $49.95 USD!

Number 6 – Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang

Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang

I suppose the presence of perhaps the most popular realistic dildo of all time (which is quite impressive considering it came out 12 years ago) was a given when I reviewed it last year, but I didn’t make it easy for it. I spent so long wanting the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang, that when I finally held it in my hands I felt totally disillusioned, and left wondering how such a simple toy could possibly be worth so much. Even after testing it and realising that this genuinely is the best realistic toy I’ve ever tried, I still have concerns about the price tag, which is why it didn’t make it into my Top 5.

You can get the Vixen Creations VixSkin Mustang for just $199.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $139.99 USD at Lovehoney US!

 Number 5 – Womanizer Liberty

Womanizer Liberty

My final review for the year, the Womanizer Liberty barely scrapped through to make it on this list, but I’m so glad it did. As one of Womanizer’s low-end offerings I didn’t have huge expectations, so finding out that this little toy was better than every other non-Womanizer suction toy that I’ve tried, including 2019’s Number 1, the Satisfyer Luxury, was huge. While still not as good as my other Womanizer’s, this seems fair when you consider that it’s less than half their price. Plus, with the vibrant and bold colours of the Lily Allen special edition, alongside a travel-friendly case and discreet size, this is definitely a stand-out of 2020.

You can get the Womanizer Liberty By Lily Allen for just $149.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $99.99 USD at Lovehoney US!

Number 4 – Magic Wand Plus

Magic Wand Plus

My favourite sex toy has been the Magic Wand Rechargeable for almost six years now, so when I heard they were releasing a new version it felt like Christmas and my birthday all wrapped up in one! Neither an upgrade nor a downgrade, the Magic Wand Plus keeps the powerful and rumbly vibrations of the Rechargeable whilst forgoing patterns and charging to lower the costs. While I actually preferred the controls of this toy, being able to use the Rechargeable without a cord is obviously a huge advantage. But for anyone not bothered by this, the Plus means that the world-famous Hitachi is now the most accessible it’s ever been.

You can get the Magic Wand Plus from Peepshow Toys for just $110 AUD / $79.95 USD!

 Number 3 – Womanizer DUO

Womanizer DUO

Womanizer were not the first brand to match suction stimulation and G-Spot vibrations, but they were certainly the first to perfect it. The Womanizer DUO combines the powerful suction of the Womanizer Premium with the G-Spot vibrations of the We-Vibe Nova 2 (see below), to create a breathtaking dual-stimulation experience that is absolutely worthy of its premium price tag. Providing some of the best orgasms not just of 2020, but of my life, it also uses Smart Silence to keep things discreet and is ideal for hands-free play. If you’re ever looking to splurge on a sex toy, make it this.

You can get the Womanizer DUO for just $329.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $219.99 USD at Lovehoney US!

 Number 2 – We-Vibe Nova 2

We-Vibe Nova 2

I’m almost six years into professionally reviewing sex toys, so it’s shocking to think that until a few months ago I still hadn’t been able to find a rabbit vibrator that I truly loved. Where the We-Vibe Wand failed due to the brand trying to reinvent something that was already working, the We-Vibe Nova 2 did the opposite, taking on one of the most troublesome vibrators on the market and redesigning it for success. With two adjustable arms to work for a larger range of people than ever before, alongside powerful vibrations that maintain contact with your G-Spot and clitoris regardless of how you angle or thrust the toy, this is a real game-changer.

You can get the We-Vibe Nova 2 for just $189.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $149.99 USD at Lovehoney US!

 Number 1 – Womanizer Premium

Womanizer Premium

WOW Tech (the parent company of both Womanizer and We-Vibe) have absolutely knocked it out the park in 2020, with their products making up exactly half of my Top 10, but I’ve saved the best till last. The Womanizer Premium was one of my early reviews, but even then I knew it would end up making it here. One of the best toys I’ve ever tried, the Premium just ticks every box for me while also being quick and easy to apply, which is why it was easily my most used product of 2020 and a godsend during lockdown. Not to mention its breath-taking clitoral stimulation, which itself is more than worthy of my Number 1 spot.

You can get the Womanizer Premium for just $299.95 AUD at Lovehoney Australia or $199.99 USD at Lovehoney US!
