Honey Play Box Joi

As the range of options for clitoral stimulation increases over the years, I suppose it is only inevitable that these new styles will eventually be available in rabbit form. The bane of any sex toy reviewer’s existence, it was difficult enough to find a vibrating dual-stimulator to match your own body measurements, let alone one with a suction nozzle or flicking tongue. Yet while I have had some unexpected success with air pressure rabbits so far in the form of the Womanizer DUO, I have thankfully been able to avoid the latter of the two due to my general indifference to those little flapping pieces of silicone. That is, until now. When Honey Play Box recently approached me to review their brand new product, the Joi, it seemed it was finally time to give this rising star of the sex toy world a go. Which may or may not have been highly influenced by the fact that it comes in my favourite colour, which I’ve never had a vibrator in before.

Product Description

The Honey Play Box Joi is what you would get if you combined the Sohimi Suction Vibrator, Honey Play Box Crave and Funzze Flower Tongue into one toy. It is essentially a dual-stimulator, but with enough points of difference to make it quite unlike any other single toy I have used. The most notable of these (at least, when it is in your hands, as I was unaware when just looking at the photos online) is how large it is, as with a insertable length of around 15cm / 5.9″ and maximum diameter of 3.9cm / 1.54″, this is one of the biggest internal vibrators I have tried, which is surprising considering it is not curved at all. Because of this and the dual bulbs along its shaft (which each have their own motors), Honey Play Box actually intends for the Joi to be able to stimulate both the A-Spot and G-Spot at once, which is something I haven’t experienced before. Plus, to add to this, not only does the Joi’s internal shaft vibrate, but it also rotates 360 degrees! Finally, there is, of course, the small tongue at the end of the external shaft, which can flick back and forth rapidly to mimic the sensations of oral sex.

Honey Play Box Joi External Arm

As for the overall design, Honey Play Box have kept things looking sleek by using a smooth body-safe silicone all over, which has some minor padding at the start of the Joi but is otherwise completely firm, with flowing lines running from the external shaft to midway down the internal arm to add some texture and visual interest. On the top of the tongue’s shaft you’ll then find two buttons, the Honey Play Box logo twice (one on the silicone and another oddly on a piece of reflective plastic), and the toy’s magnetic connection plates for its charger. Then, whilst the Joi only comes in three colours, with one of them being the standard purple, the other two are in an uncommon pale yellow and vibrant orange. I have the orange version and I absolutely adore how it looks, with it being the first time I’ve owned a vibrator in my favourite colour (and not for lack of trying). In fact, the only real downside visually is a few small areas where the silicone appears dark due to the fact that there is a hollow area behind it. In addition, the Joi is also USB rechargeable, waterproof, and anal-safe.

Packaging

Honey Play Box Joi Packaging

My order with Honey Play Box for the Joi was placed on the 14th of December and I received it on the 21st, which was much faster than my previous orders with them and impressive considering it was so close to the holidays. Although as with the Pomi Wand, the box was sadly once again not discreet, listing the product inside as a “massager”. In regards to the packaging, the Joi uses the same basic box and branding that I have grown used to from Honey Play Box, which I am always very happy to see since it looks so aesthetically pleasing and feels high-quality. Inside you’ll then find the toy resting safely in foam, alongside its charging cord and instruction manual, which are also in the same style as their previous products. Finally, the Joi also comes with a one year warranty.

Charging

Since the Honey Play Box Joi is USB rechargeable, charging it is easy. Simply plug one end of its cord into a USB port and the other end can then be connected magnetically to the toy, which is thankfully strong enough that you won’t need to worry about it accidentally falling off. Charging then takes only one hour, with the light flashing to indicate this and becoming solid when complete, and this’ll give you around two hours of playtime. Additionally, Honey Play Box recommends charging the toy before first use.

Something I have noticed throughout my testing of the Joi is that its flicking tongue can appear to malfunction. It’ll start to slow down and stop if touched, and this gradually gets worse to the point of it not moving at all (despite being turned on and making a noise). At first I was concerned I had a faulty model, but sure enough, charging it fixed this issue. It turns out it was just the result of the battery starting to run out, so I’d recommend keeping it topped up after every use and not freaking out if this happens, since it occurs well before the two hour mark.

Controls

With just two buttons, controlling the Honey Play Box Joi is simple. Well labelled and each corresponding to one of the toy’s two arms, you don’t need to refer to the instructions to know that the circle button controls the internal shaft and its three motors (because of the rotations), whilst the tongue-like button controls the external shaft and its single motor. Being separated like this, it gives you the flexibility to either use the arms independently or together, although for anyone hoping for a similar situation with the internal shaft’s motors, this is not the case as they are controlled as one. To turn the toy on, hold either button down to activate the corresponding motor, which will start on the lowest steady speed. You can then continue clicking the button to cycle through seven modes, three of which are steady speeds and four of which are patterns, and these are the same across the four motors. At any point, you can also turn the alternative shaft on and control it the same way. Plus, while not mentioned in the instructions, it seems that if you then press both buttons at the same time while both shafts are on, you’ll put the Joi into a stand-by mode, which is a handy way to instantly “turn off” the toy after orgasm or if you’re feeling overwhelmed (although does mean you can’t save time getting to your favourite speed by simply pressing both buttons at once). To actually turn the toy off though, you will need to hold down each button separately again. Overall I was happy with all of this and appreciate the simplicity considering there are so many motors.

First Impressions

Considering the fact that this is a dual-stimulator and features three things I know from experience I don’t really like (a large internal shaft, rotations, and a flicking tongue), I definitely had a lot of negative expectations going into my review of the Joi. However, I was impressed with the range of motion in the product’s rotations, an improvement on the Honey Play Box Crave, and also thought the tongue was able to withstand more pressure than usual before stopping, and even when it did so it continued to offer stimulation through residual vibrations from the motor. This external arm is also very quiet which I was happy to hear, although this is sadly not the case with the internal one (the upside is that this will at least usually be inside of you when turned on). On a similar note, I also found the vibrations here somewhat lacking, being fairly buzzy, especially at the higher speeds.

My Experience

As expected due to its size and the firmness of the silicone, the Honey Play Box Joi can be a little difficult for me to insert right off the bat, so I prefer to first warm-up with a smaller dildo such as the Funkit Toys NoFrillDo R. Sliding it in as deep as is required then feels a little strange and uncomfortable at first, but eventually it settles into a position where the first bulb sits just before my A-Spot and the second bulb rests on my G-Spot. Plus, the perfect positioning continues, as the external shaft sits close enough to my clitoris that I can easily push it forward to make contact (or, for a hands-free option, I can position it and then close my legs around it). There is then enough flexibility to the Joi that thrusting with it doesn’t feel painful or restrictive, which can be a common feature of dual-stimulators, and I actually get a great amount of G-Spot stimulation alongside just a hint of A-Spot pleasure! Turning the motors on, I then don’t really get much from the internal shaft. Both the vibrations and rotations feel nice, and do add to the overall stimulation I am receiving, but they don’t make as big of an impact as the actual shape of the toy. As for the external shaft, which is the most important element of a dual-stimulator in my opinion, this works well and compliments the internal pleasure nicely, with the tongue surprisingly holding its own against the G-Spot stimulation. I think the secret here, is that even when pressed firmly against me, so much so that the tongue can barely move around, the Joi continues to provide clitoral pleasure as residual vibrations from the flap’s motor can be felt, a vast improvement from other flicking stimulators I have tried where everything stops when the tongue cannot move. Combining all of this together, I am then able to have some fantastic orgasms with the Honey Play Box Joi, and I love being able to easily switch between thrusting and hands-free mode, as well as quickly stopping the toy when I’m done.

Cleaning & Care

Honey Play Box Joi Internal Arm

Cleaning the Honey Play Box Joi is easy since it is waterproof, although the silicone’s texture (which I couldn’t even really feel during use) will require some extra care since bacteria can hide here. To start, throw it in some warm soapy water and give it a wash, being careful to go over these ridges with a spare toothbrush. You can then rinse it and leave to dry, before storing it in a zip-lock bag to keep it clean. Furthermore, make sure to not use silicone-based lubricant with this product, as it may react badly to the silicone it is made of, but if you do then first perform a spot test.

Final Thoughts

The odds were stacked against the Honey Play Box Joi, but it turns out that I actually really enjoyed testing this product. Whilst dual-stimulators can always be a bit hit-and-miss, the best are always flexible enough to allow for some customisation, and that is exactly where the Joi excels. With a wide curve reminiscent of the fantastic We-Vibe Nova 2, I am able to adjust the external head over my clitoris without taking away from the internal shaft, which is a very good thing considering the brilliant G-Spot stimulation it provides. Then, whilst the tongue is probably still not entirely for me, as I do think I would be happier with simple vibrations or a suction nozzle, I am able to enjoy it to the point of a satisfying and long-lasting orgasm, which is a first. Perhaps the only real downside to this toy (other than the need to charge it more than usual) is that once again I feel the rotations get lost, meaning if that’s what interests you most about this product, I can’t recommend it. But for everyone else, and especially those that enjoy tongue or flicking stimulation, this is a great lower-priced dual-stimulator that’ll make a wonderful addition to your toy box.

  1. Glad to hear that the external arm’s motor has a good amount of power, sometimes dual stimulators focus too much on the internal arm’s strength. Also, I’m pleased that Honey Play Box is offering this toy in orange. Orange is a criminally underused sex toy color!

  2. I have to say I was skeptical about Honey Play Box, but I got the Jubilee earlier this year and did find some elements of it to be pretty enjoyable. I am now super curious about the Joi! And glad to hear of your good experience with it. I’m curious mostly about the dual motors and internal shape.
