While 2022 has been another strange year to be a human being, it’s yet again been a terrific time for sex toys. The flourishing industry, which is rapidly growing and projected to be worth USD $62.32 billion by 2030, is an exciting place to be right now, and accordingly I reviewed more products over the last 12 months than ever before. But as much fun as I’ve had, the downside always comes this time of year when I have to choose which lucky few will make it on my annual Top 10 Sex Toys Of The Year. Looking back at the countless orgasms I’ve had (and I’ve helped others have) thanks to my line of work does perk me back up, of course, as does reflecting on the advances to sex toys that are made each year, not just from a technological and quality standpoint, but in regards to accessibility as well, to ensure everyone has the same right to enjoy these amazing products. So, without further ado, sit back as I revisit 2022, look at what’s ahead in 2023, and share my Top 10 Sex Toys of 2022 with you all.
For me, 2022 was rough. While it saw “the end” of COVID, with no further lockdowns or restrictions here, it was the year I felt it most. While I have so far remained immune to the spicy cough, almost all of my family and friends caught it in the last 12 months, including my partner (which meant a week of sleeping on the couch for me). The fallout of the last two years also showed more than ever in his industry, with multiple job changes that meant stability was all but a memory. To make matters worse, in January the apartment building next door to us was demolished, to make way for the immediate construction of 19 townhouses. Sleep, privacy and peace became things of the past, and I had to put the video work I had enjoyed so much in 2021 on an indefinite hold. Due to this, much of 2022 was focused around us moving out of the inner-city apartments we’d lived in for most the last decade and into a house in suburbs, but due to a string of bad luck (such as the road we lived on closing for a month because of a different construction, WTF!) this was continually postponed until we finally settled into our new home in November. At the time of writing, we still haven’t fully unpacked, but for the very first time I have an actual room dedicated to my work (not just a desk in the corner of the living room), and I am excited to put it to good use in 2023.
While my personal life kinda sucked in 2022, I am glad that this was at least not the case for Princess Previews. Rather, the last 12 months saw the release of my new-look website and updated branding, bringing a touch of much-needed colour to my vibe, and while some of the changes are still a work-in-progress (such as adding sub-headers to all of my reviews) they are well worth it to make my work easier to read and enjoy. 2022 also saw me finally crack the Top 10 on Molly’s Daily Kiss’s Top 100 Sex Blogs, coming in at Number 7, and I was proud to become an administrative member of the Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers, a group who offers support to reviewers like myself. At the blog I repeatedly hit new records for the number of daily pageviews and visitors, and outside of it I was able to lend my hand to a number of different industry jobs, including working on the redesign of a retail store, consulting on a new style of sex toy, and putting together a wholesale catalog for a manufacturer. Looking ahead, I want to be able to set up my new office in a way that streamlines the review and content creation process, and also hope to be able to use the space for some exciting new projects in 2023, which I’ll be talking about more soon at my social media.
Every year I am so thankful to all of the brands who have collaborated with me, whether through sending me toys for review or taking me on as a freelancer. In 2022, this was Peepshow Toys, Betty’s Toy Box, Lovehoney, Designurbate, BedBible, Nudie Co, Nikki Darling, Faux Phallus, JIMMYJANE, SOULNIGHT, Strange Bedfellas, O.School, Propel, Funzze, Share Satisfaction, Le Wand, b-Vibe, Uncover Creations, Godemiche, Love Not War, HERO, and Wildfire. Plus, an even bigger thank you goes out to all of my blog sponsors across the last 12 months, ClosetPlay Sex Toys, Base Seagsaidh, Darque Path, BestRealDoll, Honeysx, Sex Doll Tech, Honey Play Box, Naughty Time Toys, Nastnova, Sex Toys Palace, Bestvibe, AcmeJoy, Simpli Pleasures, Ifonnx, Monster Pub, Lust Avenue, Wands of Lust Co, Cherry Banana, and Tantaly, whose support truly allows me to afford to do what I do.
As always, though, my BIGGEST thank you goes out to all of my subscribers, followers, and readers! I am here because of you, and getting to share my passion for this industry with you every day is the greatest job I could ever hope for.
Top 10 Sex Toys of 2022
Number 10 – Darque Path Grind
If I had to sum up the toy industry in 2022 with just one word, it would be grinders. Starting as a little-known category of toy, they exploded onto the scene at the beginning of the year and continued to dominate the independent maker scene throughout, with retailers even using the buzzword to promote old favourites like the We-Vibe Touch X. I made a point of trying as many grinders as I could, and out of all of them, the Darque Path Grind has to be my favourite, with its versatile shape and intricate gothic texture allowing for maximum stimulation in a variety of different positions. Plus, its custom tri-colour design (which is also UV reactive) is just stunning.
You can get the Grind directly from Darque Path for just $65 AUD / $45.81 USD!
Number 9 – Honey Play Box Pomi Wand
It’s a rare occasion that a white-label product makes it onto this list, so you know it’s gonna be good. I didn’t expect much when Honey Play Box sent me their Pomi Wand. It’s a cute low-priced mini massager that would certainly be a smart choice for travel or if you need to be discreet, but a powerful sex toy? I doubted that. Turns out I was wrong, with the Pomi Wand easily being one of the best smaller wand massagers I’ve ever tried. While not completely perfect, the pleasure it brought me more than made up for any shortcomings, and it quickly became one of my top recommendations for beginners in 2022.
You can get the Pomi Wand directly from Honey Play Box for just $87 AUD / $59.99 USD!
Number 8 – Love To Love Dildolls Utopia
A beautiful body-safe silicone dildo for less than $70 AUD? I probably could have told you that the Love To Love Dildolls Utopia would end up on this list before I even tried it. The thing I love most about this toy, though (other than the price and that breathtaking gradient), is that the design is so simple, making it ideal for beginners or warming-up. There’s no texture, it’s not overly phallic, and with a maximum diameter of just 3.5cm / 1.38″, it’s not too big or too small. Plus, with an anal-safe base featuring a sturdy suction cup and another colour option being glow-in-the-dark at no extra cost, this is the perfect starter dildo.
You can get the Love To Love Dildolls Utopia from Peepshow Toys for just $65 AUD / $44.99 USD!
Number 7 – SquarePegToys Nathan Firmer
In 2021, the SquarePegToys G squeeze came in at Number 3 on this list, so when Peepshow Toys reached out to see if I wanted to try another of their products, I was all in. While the Nathan Firmer didn’t do quite as well, at just Number 7, it was still an outstanding toy and always a front runner for this list. My very first “lifecast” dildo, this highly phallic toy was cast from a real Nathan’s penis, giving it an organic imperfection (such as a slightly curved, non-symmetrical shaft) that you just don’t get with a computer-generated model, and it was like my vagina knew, enjoying every inch of this filling silicone masterpiece.
You can get the SquarePegToys Nathan Firmer from Peepshow Toys for just $75 AUD / $52 USD!
Number 6 – Magic Wand Mini
Past Top 10 Number 1, the Magic Wand Rechargeable is my favourite toy ever, so when they released the upgraded Plus in 2020, it was not a huge shock that it made it to Number 4 on that year’s list. 2022’s iteration, the Mini, felt like a similar shoo-in, but at just Number 6, it hasn’t quite been able to live up to its predecessors. Essentially a smaller version of the Rechargeable, whilst the two share a similarly powerful motor, the smaller body and head meant that the sensations were simply not as strong as I am used to. Still, even with that, this is the best mini massager I’ve ever tried, and worthwhile for anyone who finds the size of a regular wands cumbersome.
You can get the Magic Wand Mini from Peepshow Toys for just $110 AUD / $75.95 USD!
Number 5 – Godemiche Morpheus
The Godemiche Morpheus was another unsuspecting toy in 2022 that completely surprised me. When it arrived I was far more concerned with how my The Great Wave off Kanagawa-inspired custom would look than how it would feel, but once I used it for the first time, there was no going back. Because it turns out that the Morpheus is the single best silicone dildo I’ve ever used for G-Spot stimulation, with it reminding me more of the sensations of the legendary Njoy Pure Wand than anything else. But with less than half the cost of the Pure Wand, this toy is single-handedly making G-Spot pleasure more accessible, and looking damn good doing it.
You can get the Morpheus directly from Godemiche for just $92 AUD / $63 USD!
Number 4 – Doxy Bullet
I’ve been waiting for the Doxy Bullet since it was first announced back in 2016. But when I saw it had been finally released a couple of months ago and checked its specs, my first thought was: Oh no. Because with just two non-pattern speeds, I knew it would not be enough to please me. Yet here we are, with it at Number 4 on this list and proving me wrong once again. While just two speeds was certainly frustrating, they were powerful enough to make up for it, and I couldn’t help but appreciate the return to the simplistic bullet design that has been missing from other recent releases, making the Doxy Bullet my new favourite clitoral vibrator.
You can get the Doxy Bullet from Peepshow Toys for just $116 AUD / $79.99 USD!
Number 3 – Womanizer Premium 2
The Womanizer Premium came in at Number 1 in 2020, so it was hard to rank 2022’s sequel as anything less. Especially when this toy takes everything I already loved about the Premium and simply elevates it, making my all-time favourite suction stimulator not only more powerful, but quieter too. Truly the only reason this toy did not rank higher is its price tag, which I realise is not the most accessible to people, particularly when products such as the one below continue to prove suction technology doesn’t have to break the bank. Still, it goes without saying that this is my personal favourite of all the toys on this list, and probably the one I’ve used most.
You can get the Womanizer Premium 2 from Lovehoney for just $299.95 AUD / $199 USD!
Number 2 – Satisfyer Pro 2 Next Generation
Like the Womanizer Premium 2, the Satisfyer Pro 2 Next Generation is the upgraded version of a product I had previously reviewed. That toy, however, came in at Number 3 in 2016, so the Next Generation’s placement is actually a step up. While this suction icon was always good, changes such as a reduced noise level, stronger stimulation, and a minus button to lower the pressure waves when needed, really help take it to the next level. My favourite part, though, has to be its price tag, which is fairly reasonable and frequently on sale, making this a product I am always happy to recommend to beginners.
You can get the Satisfyer Pro 2 Next Generation from Peepshow Toys for just $101 AUD / $69.95 USD!
Number 1 – Snail Vibe
Unlike the previous two products on this list that were just upgraded versions of past top toys, the Snail Vibe is truly unique and first-of-its-kind. Intended as a new form of dual-stimulator, I was understandably hesitant when I first saw it, with a shape reminiscent of a musical note. But it turned out that there was indeed a method to the madness, with its rolling external arm offering constant clitoral stimulation at the same time as deep A-Spot pleasure and powerful vibrations. Easily the most innovative and unexpected toy to make it on this list, it’s a genius piece of design and absolutely deserving of my Number 1 spot.
You can get the Snail Vibe from Lovehoney for just $224.95 AUD / $149.99 USD!
